Default Temporary SIN to Permanent SIN

HI

We just came back from the Service Canada office to have my temporary SIN changed to a Permanent SIN as we landed over the weekend. Our temporary SIN were taken from us to be shredded.

We asked the lady at the Service Canada...who do we inform about the new SIN? She said give our employer our new SIN. We wonder who else do we need to inform about our new SIN. CRA? as we had already filed our return with the old SIN.

Any advice will be appreciated.

You need to tell anyone who pays you taxable income: employers, banks, and trusts. Also banks or trusts where you have a TFSA, RRSP or RESP.

The CRA should be able to work it out for themselves, but a letter saying, "hello, its me, my SIN number was 9XX-XXX-XXX and it is now 6XX-XXX-XXX,"cannot do any harm.
