I'm not buying a new PC because of a bug in the windows 8 installer. It's a couple of years old now, but it's fast enough to run win 7, firefox and iplayer smoothly and also play back 1080p videos properly. When it stops doing that or it breaks is when I upgrade, but I don't expect that to be for several years.

You do realise 6 months is a long time in "computer calendar years"? It's even shorter than that for our Apple product loving cousins

My computers are functional rather than shinys; I don't replace them for no reason.

I have an Acer notebook running XP, that's certainly ten years old (maybe more, XP was new at the time of acquisition). I use it every day. The hardware has suffered a bit, some keys fell off, some pixels failed, but for domestic use (internet, email, accounting, word processing) it is as effective as the new machines we have lying around.

If you're not using the machine for games then any old pc will do much the same things as any new one.

Or TV users either, what's the name of the app that's supposed to be used for that, Smart Glass I think? So you manipulate the computer or your Xbox using your Windows 8 Phone. How convenient.

RTM no longer means RTM. I had the RTM version of Windows 8 installed, on October 25th, the official release date, it pops up with a 170MB Windows Update that "fixes" various things.

170MB, are they kidding?

I'm waiting for the official release of Office 2013 right now because the supposed RTM version I'm using is riddled with bugs.

Finally had a look at the iPad Mini today, very nice, light, but is it worth the extra $$$ on a Samsung Galaxy or Kindle Fire...possibly not.

I have the Google Nexus 7 for travelling. Cheap enough and way more content & apps available than the crackberry playbook. Small enough for travelling as well.

I know lots of people will be out of work for a short while, but the sooner RIM goes out of business, the sooner we can all get rid of our crappy work blackberry phones.
Wifey recently got an iPhone 4S. I have a BB bold for work. In terms of performance, speed, functionality, appearance, the BB seems literally years behind the iPhone, and the difference between the two is simply staggering.

On a lighter note, company can just not give you a mobile device, and demand that you finish your work / project by coming into work
