Swiss Army Knife
#16
From memory the law of England and Wales prohibited carrying a knife in public with a blade longer than 3 inches without a good excuse. I don`t know if the law has changed but I cannot imagine why this guy was convicted. I suspect, as usual, there is more to the story than the media are letting on.

I have a fabulous swiss army knife/multi tool that used to live on my work key ring. I was always using it to fix various things , re wire my lab etc.
I got so fed up with the hysteria surrounding knives in schools and justifying why it would be reasonable for someone teaching a practical subject to need such a tool ( its not like I would leave it lying around it was on my waist loop with my keys and security badge), eventually I gave it and it lay at home unused.
I really missed my swiss army knife

This is an alternative to a bigger multitool knife. I've used it lots of times since it's been on my car keyring, and because it looks like a key nobody ever notices it.

I didn't look closely at them but happened to notice Canadian Tire have Swiss Army Knives in their stores. Pressumably they are legal but do you have to be careful of the situation you carry them as in the UK below?

I have a swiss army knife that my parents gave me when I first went to guide camp (about 30 odd years ago)... it has always been on my key-ring along with my keys and I have never had a problem with it (I do remove it when flying but that is about it)....
Mine still has the toothpick and tweezers....

I too carried a mini swiss army knife with me when younger. Had it with me at school, when in town, church, you know, places you usually go. never a problem, then again, I wasn't showing off and brandishing it around.
These days I think it's asking for trouble carrying one (in the UK), no doubt some little oik would take it off you and stab you, or you'd try and use it to defend yourself from another oik and you'd end up being arrested.

Possibly, you may find that the 'disabled caravanner' gave the wrong answer when asked 'Would you use this knife in self defence if you were attacked?'
'of course officer' means he is in possession of an offensive weapon, and the officer and force have one more Recordable Offence solved, helps with the stats! sad but true, but who knows, believe the media at your peril.....................maybe he managed to plea bargain the weapons of mass destruction in his cold box.
