England must win against SL or face elimination. Match on now.

Re: The Summer's Cricket.
Well its not the summer but our lads are back at it on the sub-continent. 1st day, India are 112 for none just before lunch. Hmm, seems like a slightly anaemic attack. ANyway if you want to check the game out this stream is working at the moment.

Click here Still, Swanny still in with a shout at all 10, as the rest of the attack look like they couldn't buy a wicket.....and then we get a chance to bat  |

It was painful to watch. You might as well have four spinners. The pitch was like a dead sponge, the seamers got nothing. We never learn down there.
Not impressed with the decision not to play Panesar. Even two spinners would be two too few on this pitch, but going in with only one specialist is silly. KP and Samit Patel did their best to support Swann, I'm sure, but this is going to be a rout. England's only hope, I guess, will be to build a modest lead after the inevitable follow-on and use the unpredictability of the fourth-innings track to bamboozle India. I'm not holding my breath. |

These days you need a mystery spinner too:( |

How long is it since an international Test side opened their bowling with two spinners? India were pretty close - they had Zaheer Khan on for, what, four overs before bringing Ojha in to partner Ashwin, and gave Yuvraj Singh a go, too, before the close.

England to 41 for 3, still 281 short of averting the follow on. Number one test side my arse. Bolloxy shit thats all.
The frustrating thing is it was all so predictable after Jimmy dropped Pujara on single figures (?). <sigh> |

Re: The Summer's Cricket.
Healthy lead, or a big collapse on the cards tonight.
Would be nice to see a big KP ton but I think he may do summat daft within the first half hour :( |

They won't enjoy the second innings much, if we can grab a healthy lead and Monty starts twirling. |

Well played Alistair Cook. England's leading centurion in Test (aka 'proper') cricket.
Although KP has a chance to match him later..... |

Although KP has a chance to match him later..... I’m with you on test cricket. I don’t have the patience for the other formats although I do like proper country cricket. I envision my retirement days sipping pints of bitter in the members pavilion at Canterbury and having a good grumble. Cricket is a fantastic sport for moaning as it has so many variables. |

Very interesting tour of country cricket and the folk that attend the games. I love test match cricket, nothing beats it if you ask me. I have the feed on willow.tv from 10ish each night. |

Re: The Summer's Cricket.
Well that was all rather jolly, wasn't it ?
All the batsmen contributed, Jimmy, Swann, Monty all among the wickets. Shame about Broad & Bres being off the boil and Finn getting injured, but there you go. Roll on NZ next year. What ? ODI and Twenty20 ? No thanks, surely nobody watches that old rubbish, do they ? |

It was a dreadful, fun sapping pitch but at least we got the result. I stayed up longer than I should on the last day. I'll give the shortened ones a miss. They're only good for a day out with the lads. I like watching the tests in NZ, it all looks so pretty, serene and uncrowded. Like cricket played in the old days.

Re: The Summer's Cricket.
Bit of a slow start to the first Test, by all accounts. 160/4 for a day's play (admittedly shortened by 10 overs for weather, but even so...)
The winter series in NZ didn't produce a Test win for either side; I wonder if we're in for another pair of drawn Tests in the return leg? |

I'd expect Bairstow / Prior / Swann to move the game on a tad faster, batting wise. Don't know about the forecast, but I think this will be a result test, one way or t t'other. |
Re: The Summer's Cricket.
England's team has become decidedly pedestrian and soft with the inclusion of Compton, Root and Bairstow. I still miss Freddie. :(

Hmmm. I've only got a text commentary here, but it looks as though this might be getting interesting. Four down, 40 minutes or so of play remaining today. Getting rid of McCullum before stumps would alter the balance of power, I feel.
