I've seen Weston super Mare at high tide when you can walk into the sea and low tide when you can walk for miles through sludgy, soggy sand to get into the sea. I vaggguely recall a couple of other places in England where high tide can cut you off if you're not careful but I wouldn't call experiencing both to be an advantage.

But it's the BIGGEST!

And very probably more scenic than Weston Super Mud.

But Weston has a nice green and some nice pubs ;)

As for biggest, people come from thousands of miles to see (and surf on) the tidal bore here but it's totally underwhelming.

Well we might just see that bore as I've booked one night in Moncton. I doubt we will hang around to see both low and high tides.

I'm aware of that event. Not sure what your point is unless is that you need a certain number of drowned immigrants to make the trip worthwhile.

Sounds like some great summer holiday plans people are in the making.

A buddy and i are off up to Big Chief Island (near Orillia) on his boat for the Canada day weekend.....its always a big party place for boaters.....and as Canada day is on a Saturday this year and its 150 celebrations, im sure its going to be one hell of a party! Ive heard rumours of live bands playing on a floating raft in the middle of the lake - as the water there around Big Chief island is only waste deep. Be fantastic if they do. :fingerscrossed:

It will take us 2-3 days on the boat to get there from Peterborough and the same back, so were making quite the vacation out of it. Wont be too expensive either which is good. Should be fun!

I don't know if you're interested in that sort of literature, but I liked the Stephen Leacock home tour at Old Brewery Bay near Orillia when I was there a long time ago.

Not sure what the plan is yet other than to get away for a week or two, both of us havent had great news to deal with recently, myself work related and him woman trouble, so getting away on the boat for a week or so and celebrate Canada day seemed a good idea. Play it by ear i think.

Anyone do anything interesting/fun over this long weekend? (for those who have a long weekend.)

My normal 2 days off fell on Sun/Mon but all we did was clean house and plant some plants on the patio and took the dog for several walks, she loves the sunny days and needs 3-4 walks.

At work several who had today off were disappointed as they wanted to work so they got full holiday pay.

I have to work today but I get next Monday off. I might go fishing for a change. ;)

The pups are heading off on a road trip, Seattle, down the Washington and Oregon Coast down to the Northern tip of Cali and then back inland via Mount Hood, -staying at the Timberline Hotel- the hotel they used for outside shots for the Shining, Mt Rainier and then home. I must be good and not take too many photos. Snoop banned me from getting a drone - probably wise

The old joke if you're drinking Rainier beer is that Santa had 8 tiny Rainier.

I'm doing a motorbike trip to Romania in a month, that'll be good and sore on the arse!

September I'm taking my girlfriend on a cruise, we've never done one before. It's a surprise for her so she doesn't know what or where. Going to Italy, Croatia, Greece and Malta. I'm trying to get the last few places I want to see in Europe done before we make the move! Then I'm free to eat myself into a coma on poutine and get eaten by a bear. Go Canada!

Trying to do something with friends and airbnb a cottage for a weekend. Then heading to Malta for 2 weeks at the end of Aug. I got a full time job for the summer at our local hospital in the I.T. department so looking forward to that as well. (I've been there all year as a High School co-op student) :)

We had to cancel our vacation as him indoors had a funny turn and now isn't allowed to drive for a month. I'm a little ball of stressed confusion.

You're a high school student and you're thinking of airbnb.:eek: or having somebody's parents let your group have the family cottage for the weekend?

Whatever happened to camping or sleeping in the car or eurorailing?. Not sure which airbnb will accept a booking from teenagers.

We're not going away in the summer, daughter and grandson coming for a week in August when we have a big anniversary. We will take them to the Island for a couple of days so she can catch up with family friends.

I hate travelling in the summer if we don't have to do so ...... too many darned tourists

I've booked a trip in late October to Quebec City ....... I've never been there so it's one to mark off the bucket list.

Then Christmas on the East Coast.

Some train travel involved on both those trips, of course

Its actually fairly cheap...you can rent something decent for around 250/night which for 5 of us is around 50 a night.

No Gozit, what he was suggesting was that you don't now need to actually visit Malta, you can just visit it virtually, wherever you want to go on the island thereby saving your mom and dad a shed load on air travel-
