Re: Which subject would be least welcome at your dinner table?
Enough politics and religion on the news, would rather have some lighter subjects over dinner :)

Sorry, I've been watching Netflix and then an interesting TVO thingy about Manet (a dead french painter). Died of a nasty case of syphilis at age 51 I hear.
Serves him right, IMHO. But likely not acceptable as a dinner table conversation back then. |

Your join date explains your lack of local knowledge on this subject. ;)
Siouxie, sometimes word association helps. Try searching the terms iced hockey cappuccino. |

We watched an Arena programme, Sister Wendy and the Art of The Gospels.. Also interesting and combining religion and art. Sex was mentioned but only in a chaste way.
I can cope with sex, drugs rock and roll and God at my table, but NOT Sport...it all leaves me totall iced! It also depends, 'who' the guest is, if they are thick as plank, right wing racist bigots and humourless with it, you just know it's going to end in tears...I have had some of those to dinner and not known till too late...Ouch! Also, big generalization here, but...Canadians are so desperate not to offend that it can be difficult to get an form of juxtaposition going, they just agree with you:confused: Tirytory I will keep a seat warm for you, sounds great fun...just think I could discuss all of my latest pains  |

Because I don't expect to be able to change the world, just my little bit of it, and if the person doesn't happen to share my pov I might get passionate/ heated discussing it. Not sure in depth discussion of any of the three make you a good dinner guest. Might not get another invitation...

Its much easier and more satisfying the other way round. Plus, who has people round for dinner? Most people would be at work and on a weekend, down the pub. My nan would have her mates from the bingo round for a late tea but that was about it.
We haven't arrived yet, next week in fact. But we were invited around for "dinner" by the new boss at his house last year. It was seven courses, cooked by a chef, with a few courses chucked in for the kids!! It was lovely but soo salty. They won't be getting that at ours if/when we return the favour, I'm more of a Nigella type of food type of Cook although minus the coke of course...:) |

God botherers. Of any persuasion. They don't get invited.
A close second is iced hockey. Or Man U fans (esp those who have never been to Manchester, let alone Old Trafford.) |
Re: Which subject would be least welcome at your dinner table?
I've just escaped after a dinner invitation from the Cradles-Next-Door.
Yes, it happened to me. 10 true-blood cradles and the OH and myself. Conversation was, err, predictable. Iced hockey, golfing in Florida and/or Hawaii, the shortcomings of the local authorities in dealing with the ice storm etc. At least there was no mention of politics and I'm pretty sure religion would've been a bad idea, let alone sex. I think they must be, as a species, threatened. |
