No you didn't. The suggestion was on the other forum. You're not getting senile. :sneaky::)

Back to the original topic (sort of).

Three views on why we have high oil prices.

Here you go, you can have your say with the industry involved.

I missed this earlier. That site is run by CAPP (Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers), a notoriously propagandist (and extremely well funded) lobby organization mostly funded by Suncor.

I know.:p

I didn't think they were trying to hide that fact.

I had a quick look and there was a post apparently from a private individual giving a table of CO2 emissions from different oil sources (Brent, Saudi, tar sands etc). Unfortunately it ignores the GHG emissions associated with production and just gives the relative emissions from combustion. Hardly the point and hardly believable that "Concerned Citizen" would be so naive.

And now we have the Greenpeace perspective. ;)

What's your opinion on coal in the UK? They have 300 to 400 years of proven reserves. With oil at approx. $136 a barrel and coal at $1 a barrel coal may be a good bet, given now that we have clean (or cleaner) burning coal and oil from coal technology.

Well, the Brits could get creative with personal transportation I suppose http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~pa...cc/arc0373.htm

But fewer and fewer people are buying those vehicles if the media reports are to be believed. In fact, in this part of BC there was recently a report in the paper that transit use has increased as we have seen the incredible at the pump prices ($1.495 this afternoon compared to $1.405 yesterday evening - amazing how quickly the price volatility feeds through close to a holiday). It is only a matter of time (I hope) before people connect house size with energy costs but hydro does seem to make people rather complacent. Perhaps when we see cliimate change impacting hydrology people will pay attention.

Or they've bought into a viable alternative. Can't see one at the moment though.

That one is a bit of a worry. Let's hope they don't look too closely at their neighbours. I mean, it's not as if we've got anything they'd be casting envious glances towards (oil, water, power, hockey players...)

But that is partially driven by additional safety equipment and partially by the additional bells and whistles. Can't think what we did without the in-car AV systems ;)

I understand that the Department of National Defense have measures in place. All along the border are caches of Canadian beer (beer, that is, with appreciable amounts of alcohol in it). As the US infantry approaches the caches will be opened then the Canadian army will just sit back until all the Muricans are blind drunk.

If the US decides to parachute in we're stuffed.
