Re: Stinky- end of an era
It's horrible, isn't it? Sorry to hear this. We had to make same decision with our dog in January. Miss him but good memories and I think you'll have lots of those too

Re: Stinky- end of an era
Sorry to hear of the loss of your best friend. I got the impression you had a special bond with Stinky.
I know from experience just how heartbreaking it is to lose a furry friend. (((HUGS))) |
Re: Stinky- end of an era
Oh noooooo... so sorry to hear that you lost your bestest furry friend, I know how hard it is...
I like to think that Jake the Stinky will be frolicking around with all our beloved animals having a whale of a time and will welcome you with a lick, a tail wagging and a paw when you meet again. Big hugs for you all. |
Re: Stinky- end of an era
Sorry to hear that. RIP Stinky.

Re: Stinky- end of an era
Sorry to hear about Jake, he obviously shared in a wonderful life with your family. What more could a dog ask for?

Re: Stinky- end of an era
So very sorry to read this. Our Curly is 12 too and I am absolutely dreading the inevitable. I hope you have a wonderful trip and when you get home you can focus on all the happy memories and the satisfaction of having given one of these gorgeous creatures a fabulous life.

Re: Stinky- end of an era
It's so easy for so many of us to fully empathise with you at this time. Many of us have been there, done that, some including myself, more than once. My little guy, Nike, my soul mate is twelve going on thirteen. He's my third Border Collie, one after the other, over forty years now. Like the previous poster I am only to well aware he has more years behind than ahead. In the past I have, on the sad demise of my little guys, said to myself " never again"....Only to last a really short time before introducing another little black and white wonder into my life. They give us their all, much more than we can ever provide them. That's why it hurts so much when we loose them....But they would not change the life that they had with us....And that, at least I find great comfort in. I hope you do too.

Very sad day in the Stinkypup/Snoopdawg household yesterday when we had to say goodbye to our beautiful old boy Stinky. He had reached an amazing age, 12 3/4 which is good in Golden retriever terms and amazing given his really bad hips- he was an amazingly strong dog but was clearly suffering and we had to relieve that suffering.
He had a great life, was immensely loved by us all and tears are still being shed profusely and we will deeply miss him. He won't actually mind me telling you his real name now- it was Jake- the plan was to get another boy who was to be called Elwood but as he had to have major hip surgery at 9 months we felt it wasn't fair to get another one under the circumstances. That last photo was taken with him spending an hour before going to the vet in the sun- I think it shows him off well Thankfully we are heading off to the UK today- at least for now it will get us away from little reminders like soft toys/stuffies that he adored since he was a pup. Sorry about the sentimental post, he was an old dog but it still hurts like hell :( My 12 and a half year old goldie just put his big boof head in my lap because I'm crying and he's trying to make me feel better but it just makes it worse. |
Re: Stinky- end of an era
Condolences. It's the horrible part of pet ownership that we all have to deal with but is never easy.. We had to do the right thing for one of our cats last week as he was evidently in distress. Winston was 18 years old and came to us from the SPCA about a month after we landed in 2004. He was a cat with a surfeit of character and will be sorely missed. Particularly by the other cat, Clemmie, who relied oh him, even in his dotage, to protect her from the Beagle cross that joined the family just before Christmas. (As I write this a grey blur - Clemmie - followed by a brown-and-white blur - Frank- has just streaked upstairs. Pets. Never a dull moment.)
