Sue,

Please what have you posted is a great distortion of the actual incident!!!!!
Yes what he did was follish BUT he did NOT dangle the child over the crocs head (BTW the croc was called Murray and both he and young Bob are still arive)

You're all being very unfair here.
He was a bit mad and his TV shows were entertaining - Don't know about you, but I always used to watch it to see if he'd get eaten!!
But he did a lot of conservation work and ploughed all his money into the Austrailia Zoo making it one of the best zoos in the world (apparently!).
He used to wrestle crocodiles, catch the worlds deadliest snakes and put poisness spiders down his pants (ok I'm exagerating about the pants!), but then got killed by a Stingray??!?!?! Hmm maybe not quite as hard sounding as getting mauled by a tiger shark, but when you're times up! ;)

No doubt my comments will upset many of you, but the man was known to do stupid things - we all remember the incident with his month-old son and the croc. The man obviously loved animals but had little respect for them......his main concern was being a showman and a showoff.
It's a sad loss for his family - I'll say no more.

Would you do that with one of your kids BC? He's action go far beyond foolish - into the realm of unbelieveable and is he really a fit father?

What a sad time for us nature film lovers
Great man - one not too clever thing should not stop
us admiring a man who has done so much for the animals
of the world. He manage to engage the young with his
daringness at that is no mean thing to do. He also
got oldies like me on the edge of my seat!!

A great guy!!

what a laugh you are today, he was reported and he was investigated and it was decided that as it was his job and his expertise in dealing with crocs so it was no more danerous than you mothers cooking dinners, feeding a pet or drinking hot drinks whilst holding a baby.

So you either remember the guy is dead and have some respect i.e the kids now have NO father. or get your facts straight before typing venom on the keyboard based on your own fears. OR report every parent who has ever lived for holding their baby in 1 arm whilst doing something else.

Good forbid theres a dog in the same house with a baby when willmore is around.

Yea those australian authorities are really clever arent they concluding that holding a baby close to a croc is no different than holding a baby while cooking or having a dog in the house. Give me a break. Would you be that careless with your kids? I can just imagine the chaos in the children's social services in australia.

And my facts are straight, thats why I included the link. As far as having respect Im very sorry that the man was so stupid that he got himself killed doing deeds that he was very very well paid for. Im sorry that his family has to now suffer the rest of their life because of his stupidity and I hope he invested his money wisely so they want for nothing.

We've loved Steve Irwin for years, in fact since he first started out. He creates mixed feelings in people but we admired his work immensely. He was a showman through and through, but 'crikey' he loved the animals.

Today is a sad day. We can't seem to take in that he's gone. I keep expecting him to come on the TV and say "fooled ya!". Sadly that's not going to happen. The only other time we felt so affected by a death outside the family was when Di died.

Poor Terri, Bindi and Bob! My heart breaks for them. They've been offered a state funeral for him, which is really touching.

Has anyone ever met him?

I'm glad you said that about when Diana died because that's exactly how I felt.

Penny
