Thats where the money from my first attempt at saving for a ring went. Some close mates beat us to it and claimed this summer to get married.
So rather than be sensible and continue saving i went out and bought a massive HD TV

Apparently the average price of a ring is, $5,500. I bet the OP must feel like a right cheap bastard. Anyway I got a Canadian diamond for $200! Get in!

Well, if geo4 really cared he would get some sort of exotic pie. Something hand picked and peeled by blind children in some poverty stricken country. Then have the crust kneeded by an arthritic grandmother. The pie should then be placed on a platter which is encrusted with diamonds and precious stones no one has heard of.

What is an acceptable amount to spend on an engagement ring?
I want to get engaged next year but I have no idea!!!
I have 2 friends who are by no means loaded and one of them spend over 10k on a ring and the other around 8k...
I saw a ring I thought she would like that was about $800 and when I told these guys the price they scoffed at me.
On one hand she is not the kind of girl that is into really expensive jewellry and stuff she into snowboarding and football... but on the other, her two best mates are these girls sporting rocks the size of a babys head.
So any females reading this... what do you reckon?

If my boyfriend went out and spent 8k+ on a ring for me I would be shocked and would not feel comfortable wearing it. Instead, I went and picked out my own ring with a budget that I felt comfortable with 1k. I ended up picking out a ring for 2.5k, but that was only because it was exactly what i wanted and I fell in love with it.

Spend what you feel comfortable spending. Or maybe talk to her and see what she wants.

My husband I spent ages looking for the perfect engagement ring, I didn't want anything too expensive because I knew I wouldn't take it off for gardening/washing up/showering/swimming etc. I also knew I wanted a diamond but nothing fancy (diamonds are my favourite followed by the really pale blue stones). We finaly found something for 300 poundish, the diamonds really sparkle (still) and I love it.
