Interesting article. I can relate to it. Certain sounds trigger me especially the sound of people eating and a few others.
I often wear ear plugs to help reduce the sounds.

Interesting.
Sometimes it can be a question of pitch & density (of the sound). Those probably aren't the technical terms

I loathe the sounds of people eating and gulping. Can't help it and have always been that way. Used to get me in trouble with Mum for face pulling at the merest slobber.

Noise is a downside to living in an apartment. The near constant noise really gets to me, nowhere quiet to relax.

My husband is a nightmare for people eating sounds. To the point if I'm eating crisps it's as case of sucking them till they are soggy...I don't eat crisps. Poor old does don't get to eat when he's home à ½Ã¹„

For the record, I didn't intend to quote anyone in the above post I made.

I was wondering if Charlee had been a bit noisy chomping on her kibble and was getting a bit on your nerves

I find it amazing how some people seem to think that others aren't irritated by their noise or might actually enjoy it. Here are the ones I find most annoying.
1. Cleaning or doing other work on their vehicle in their driveway with the stereo booming full blast.(Especially bad on Sunday mornings.)
2. Allowing dogs to bark outdoors for prolonged periods, especially at night.
3. Apartment dwellers clumping around in hard-soled shoes. Living under one of those with the added "benefit" of hardwood floors is horrible.
4. Children left outside in the backyard with apparently nothing to do but scream.
5. Having cell phones switched on in movie theaters and concerts where one actually goes to listen to the music.
6. Loud conversations and cackling laughter in restaurants.
While Ogden Nash's poem about the noise from neighbors is quite witty ("And when their guests depart at six, They all go off on pogo sticks), noise irritation is extremely bad for one's health, not the least being the less obvious but highly detrimental effects it has on preventing deep sleep.
JSmith has my sympathy.

Sorry, I misquoted Ogden Nash although he does attribute the use of pogo sticks to his neighbors. The poem is "The People Upstairs".

Oh the apartment thing is horrible. Our building has wood floors and the guy above is the noisiest person ever, sounds like a herd of elephants.
Wouldnt be so bad if it wasn't 12 to 16 hours a day of loud stomping.
Unfortunantly he is not the type of person who cares about neighbors.
Yesterday morning at 7am he was drilling on the patio then scrapping snow off it onto ours.
One of the many reasons I hate apartment living.

I used to ride the number 1 bus to work in Calgary-and on more than one occasion got off the bus such was level of noise from cell phone users shouting down the damn things.
I went to an audiologist and got some custom made ear plugs-and very effective they are. Silence is golden.

Ear plugs for sure. Different ones and materials attenuate different frequencies , so will be more effective at blocking certain noises. Do some research
