So we went to the States!

I had asked some questions before about going to the States on a B1/B2 visa as I was slightly worried, but there were no problems whatsoever. We cleared immigration and customs at the airport in Vancouver. The officer only asked what my OH did (he had an ESTA) and what I did. Then he asked me why people from my country can't just get an ESTA and need a visa (well, you tell me). Anyway, easy-peasy.
Thanks everyone for your past comments.
PS. Had a lovely time in San Francisco!

We absolutely loved it. San Francisco is basically 'buzzing', Vancouver is...well, you know... It's nice, but it's not really a 'city', is it?

Well only the delusional Vancouverites dream of comparing their city to San Francisco or any other world class city.
First time I heard that someone considered Vancouver a world class city I wanted to laugh hysterically

I understand self promotion but the BC Vancouver propaganda would make Goebbels proud.
In one way I'm happy for people that really believe it otherwise it would suck to be stuck in Van...that or shovelling snow in winter in the rest of Canada....
I was luck I was able to escape Van after only 3 years...

Sorry, that's probably me that started the city comparison thing. I saw foreigngirl's thread sitting there for a whole day with no responses and thought I would add my two cents, especially as I love SFO.

Most of the people who dislike Vancouver (the city) don't live here. They can't afford to and thats just how we want it.

Personally I did find that a lot of the resident that think that Vancouver is the best city in the world where to live in reality have nowhere else to go...
