Police are searching for a man with curly hair, probably drunk and wearing an iluminous adidas track suit and an obscene amount of gold jewelry and stinking to high heaven of brut or old spice...

If approached and asked 'ay are yoo luchen at me???' 'are ya startin??' Dial 911 immediately....... :p

So I guess having a Northern accent is like wearing clogs and a flat cap and braces and having a whippet on a lead and smoking a fag then

The northern accent, broad and unpretentious, conveys a feeling of honesty and common sense; in a way more simple, but more trustworthy than the sleek urbane dialects of the south.

Not wishing to be pretentious, but it's "simpler" not "more simple". :D

Can't always get what you wish for, I guess. :p. Then I'd have to say 'Simpler, and more trustworthy'.

You may get understood if you have an accent similar to either:

James Mason
Hugh Grant
Cary Grant (albeit not typical English)
Laurence Olivier
Anthony Hopkins
John Gielgud
Richard Burton

Have a nice day :)

Many of the UK call centers were located up north for the reasons you mention.

Regina has some big call centres because our accent is supposedly neutral, and easily understood by nearly everyone.
Whether you spell it center or centre it's somehow more earnest when pronounced with, you know.

I have been here for 3 years now and I have got used to speaking clearly and slowly to the cradles as repeating myself over and over again gets very frustrating. :banghead:
