I have been in Calgary for about 18 months now and I am now coming to the end of my first trip back to the UK.. I I'm so glad I never gave up on my dream of moving to Canada and I'm so glad i made that move in the first place... after spending the last two week back here in the uk I cannot wait to get back to Calgary.. just wounding how many of you thought the same after coming back to your old homes for the first time?

I went back last week after almost three years. It was sad to see it so storm battered and LHR T3 car park looked like a German car showroom to me, but I liked it there which was a surprise to me, I appreciated it for the first time although I am still glad to live here.

Made me appreciate how nice life in the UK was and how rubbish and vulgar life is in north America. But I'd made my Faustian bargain and there was no going back for longer than few months at a time.

I've been here 9 years and have traveled back at least once a year most years. Current job means I go to UK 2-3 times a year. I look forward to returning back to family & fresh air here on The Rock but honestly, I don't see anything in the UK that would prevent me from living back there again if circumstances called for it. The "I'd never set foot in the UK again" thing sometimes quoted here has never gelled with me. To each their own and all that...

We landed Feb 1st 2007. I have no desire to visit, let alone move back. Been back a few times for family reasons etc. Each time I couldn't wait to get back HOME.

I've been in Canada long enough to have had a daughter born here, grow up and emigrate, to London, from whence I came. In London she enjoys a life Canada doesn't offer, she lives by the river, two stops on the DLR from the city airport; that means lots of cheap trips, lots of weekends in culturally different places. When I'm home we meet, in Camden or in the West End and go to the pub and for curry. And I wish I could live there.

Well, I haven’t looked back, after 10yrs and then stepping out of Canada and on to the UK..

Sitting here working from home, looking out over a garden with flowers just starting to bloom, with a high of 10 today

There is no way I’ll go back to Canada, I never want to commute under those winter conditions ever again…. Couldn’t pay me enough……
Also knowing I don’t have to give any concern to the use of DEET in the summer anymore is a plus

And so far from my limited perspective, the UK education system we are currently getting is superior in the case of my two boys, I’ve seen significant measurable improvement in under 5weeks, didn’t realize how poor the school they were in Canada was.

I liked Canada, but I’m pretty sure now that in my current place in life, the UK and Europe suits me much better….

Been here 9 years, first half of that I couldn't wait to get back on the plane to Canada, since then, I have dreaded getting back on the plane to Canada. Regardless of where I had flown to.

The vision was to be a multimillionaire on a private island in the Caribbean now with scantily clad women bringing me cocktails whilst I wrote my significant memoirs for the world. My aspirations were high.

In the interim I have to settle for wings at Hooters on a Monday night. There is only one Hooters in the UK.....

Im sorry to hear that, must be terrible living somewhere you really don't want to be.

Maybe its because I'm presently single and have no kids, so I have not ties in either country, so it would be simple for me to move back if I wanted to. I'm happy here though.

This is year 7 for us and we have had no home sickness and never felt any desire to return to the UK even for a visit. The lifestyle here is amazing. Can't ever imagine wanting to return to the UK.

to clarify

i have been here since 1962

quite satisfied

in 2000 we wanted to see what it would be like to move back since none of us are getting any younger

I stayed with my sister so it did not cost me that much

but finding work was not to be, plus the high cost of living were two deciding factors in staying put

it was an interesting six months though

And equally, some are genuinely unhappy here, some leave, some can't for many reasons, some are planning to go, and some just like to moan. Many are very happy. Different strokes for different folks and all that :)

I enjoy living in Canada. Mind you, on the whole I enjoyed living in London. I think on the whole I enjoy life. At the moment - and for the foreeable - I'm enjoying it in Canada!
