So in conclusion...

In the UK, the rivalry and conflicted emotions generated between the different countries (Scotland, England, Wales, N. Ireland), together with the sizeable unassimilated ethnic populations, make for a great buzz.
The 'monotheistic' nature of a huge country like Canada all cheering for the same side is a bit... well, boring. It's no wonder folks in here felt the need to be on 'the other side'. Rivalry is in our nature.

When England beat Slovakia at football I see it as a job done rather than a result to be particularly proud off.
I think I have learned how the Canadian Media can build up other countries to try and put a "value" into their Ice Hockey Tournament that they should always win a medal in.
I know some people have questioned my criticism of Ice Hockey but I actually like the game. The NHL is fast, fierce and competitive. International Ice Hockey needs more depth and serious participation from more countries.

Yes. I also like to cheer an underdog. When countries like Slovakia, who have a limited population and limited finance are playing I will always back them against a Canada or US.
