It's due to snow removal issues that many exurban houses in Canada have only the garage facing the street. This raises the vain hope that, if one walks around the back, there might be an attractive side of the house.

Didn't even get a welcome to Canada from immigration. The US peeps were very nice though.

I'd like to say at this point that as I was outside earlier (granted it's not that cold) doing chores in the yard - I put on my Bama boot liners and actually thought to myself - this item of clothing is possibly THE best invention ever and should be handed out to all immigrants who suffer low temps.

OK so you have to buy your big ol rated to minus 40 wellies a size bigger to accomodate them - but I would NEVER go outside for any length of time without wearing them.

Seriously guys this is a tip - go and buy some they keep your feet dry and toasty warm in your boots.

I picked up some columbia boots during our second summer, rated to -30 and they are really very good. Wool socks are amazing too (discovered that last winter when too many customers said how nice they were.). If I was to be working outside more I would buy some blue sock type things though, nothing worse than cold feet.

THanks, I bought some boots for this winter, supposed to be down to minus 30 but my toes get so cold. Last time they hurt so much when they were thawing out.

Not too good for the no-claims bonus, I'd imagine.
