Skiing in Southern Ontario?
#1
So, with all this snow to hit the region the London Mikes are going to get the ski boots out of the closet and plan a 2/3 day trip somewhere. Can anyone recommend a good place to go in terms of a good range of hills and also good kids facilities (daycare, activities - this is important). Also, has anyone been anywhere yet this season and thought the conditions were great/poor? I've been to Blue Mountain in the summer and thought "hmm, ok, not a mountain but could be nice", but wondered if people had been to other places.
I know the West has awesome skiiing, but we're really looking for a chance to dust down the boots 3 hours drive (no more) from Toronto.
Thanks BE-ers!

I skiied at Mount st Louis/Moonstone last weekend. Small compared with Blue mountain but great facilities including 3 high speed six person lifts

Not really southern ontario, and its half a days drive, but for 2 or 3 days skiing its worth the trip. You can stop off and sightsee in Ottawa or Montreal to break up the trip.

Close to Tremblant, but the skiing is less spread out and the cost cheaper. Better than anything in Ontario (other than Batawa of course

Hi Mike
My wife and I went to Mount St Louis/Moonstone for the first time on Boxing Day, and were pleasantly surprised. It's by no means an Alps resort, but will keep you entertained for a day. We live 20 minutes away from the resort, so for us it is ideal. We are actually closer to Snow Valley, but, well ... that's not worth your drive time.
We went to Blue Mountain last Saturday, and it was stupidly busy and even more so at lunch time. I like Blue a lot, and for us it's 45 minutes away.
Blue Mountain does have a more varied set of trails than Moonstone, but give the latter a try. I think you'll be mildly impressed.
EDIT: Depending on where you are in Toronto, Moonstone should be about 90 minutes. Straight up the 400, 20 minutes past Barrie.
We are back there this coming weekend.

All the best!
Oh, feel free to get in touch if you have any more specific questions, or fancy meeting up at Blue or Moonstone.

Hey, thanks for this. I hadn't heard of Moonstone before but I might check it out! Thanks so much.

I like Moonstone, and I'm planning to head up there for a spot of skiing soon. It's a lot quieter than Blue (which I've had season passes for in the past) and great for casual skiing. Like all Southern Ontario ski runs, the runs themselves are pretty short...

My first ski trip was to Mt St Louis / Moonstone, and I do rather like the place.
Blue Mountain isn't too bad either, certainly lots of runs there, but can get horrifically busy, plus it is a bit of a trek from Oakville.
There is also Glen Eden in Milton, it's a bit small but isn't too bad, been there a few times and it's very local to us now.
The only other place I've been to ski is Hidden Valley in Huntsville. A serious trek, but it was very nice.
