Shipping Rant!!!!!
Sorry, but I'm totally peed off! We moved to Victoria in June, expected our container to arrive mid August ( as we were told by our "shippers" )
We did every thing properly, read through all the wiki links in B.E about shippers, had viewings by six different company's, didnt choose the cheapest!!
The packers arrived 3 hours late, packed for 6 hours on and off and then stopped for the night. They arrived back at 8am, container arrived at 1pm and, of course, no way was the packing any where near finished!!
By 5pm
we were getting told that some stuff wouldnt fit ( they got short thrift for that, the load had been calculated by their company!)
Any way, the container was finally packed, sealed and off it went.
Just 4 weeks later - 4!! - we get a call saying that our container was in Vancouver and as our lease didnt start til 1st Aug it had been unpacked and put into a secure bonded unit!!!!
The lorry then arrived at our new place on 1st Aug and was unloaded into the house - LONG STORY SHORT - half of our stuff has 'Disappeared' from the sealed and bonded storage, most of the other half is fu-broken or scratched, my dining table has lost a leg, dining chairs have had legs bashed off, the end of my sons bed is missing, the end of the bed!! My special mattress is covered in mould cos water some how got in to the container, rugs are wet, dvd player swimming in it. Half of the stuff was not wrapped, mostly from the garage and so had no tags on them, boxes are missing off the tag list and I still haven't finished unpacking!!!!

OH I feel your pain, that is just awful, I hope you got some decent insurance at least. SO sad when you find your belongings trashed like that.

Re: Shipping Rant!!!!!
... wow that sucks. did you get insurance because it sound to me like you are at a total loss.
my esperience ( and no issues about naming and shaming!) we used pickfords. they under quoted space to get the job, then three of the packers were awesome, one was a prat. total no hoper! you can spot his boxes!
our container was supposedly full leaving my babys tresured cot behins, a bunch of his toys, they packed things i put in the one room i told them not to go into ( also did a sign "nothing to pack in here") for the door...
anyway our full load was actually full of dead space and empty boxes, part filled cartons and bubble wrapped empty air. take for example the wicker chair. the seat and between its legs were enpty. total about 6cuft. one item.
the container was a groupage load of supposedly 407ft. when it got to vancouver, and we had to ship it all back because of circumstances i wont go into here they measured the load at 359ft. i think of all the things we had to leave behind and it makes me physically sick! my wedding album for gods sake!!
luckily my mum was moving inot our house and managed to rescue all the things they had supposedly packed (but actually just moved from the house into the garage!!!) and when we did return we got it all back but fuming isnt the word!
im now packing again to go back out there and have repacked every single box. there is no dead space, empty crisp packets, emppty toy boxes etc. every inch is jammed full and its all still liftable, and it all fits into less than the boxes they originally used. i have three left over. i have packed the lot and its all in storage and when we have the money to we will get quotes to ship it again. but wont be using pickfords ( who werent the cheapest) and they can go to storage and see the volume and if they dont get it right then its bloody tough!.
ok enough exclamation marks for me now LOL. it will be ok. i hope your treasures werent all ruined and i hope you are insured so you can get recompense for the loss.

Was this gb liners by any chance?..... We have just had very similar although our stuff was "lost" at customs when it was inspected..... We have an overflow shipment still to leave the uk yet ( the other stuff left 2 mths ago) and now have an insurance claim in excess of $12000 for missing and damaged items...... Our 20ft sealed container had been unpacked and repacked no less than 5 times in canada and our stuff was trashed completely...... Luckily we have independent insurance from gb liners and so far are having no issues with the claim x

Re: Shipping Rant!!!!!
What awful stories!! We were really lucky; just two guys did our packing who were great and our stuff arrived fine. The only breakages we had was a cheap glass bowl and the glass from a picture, that was it.
Some friends of ours had a bad experience though. They had a ton of stuff that was severely damaged. It looked as if their container had been dropped or fallen at some point.
Funny the mention of crisp packets as some other friends found their remover's fish and chip papers in one of their boxes! Still, if that was the worst of it for them then I guess no big deal.
Anyway, sorry for those of you that had bad experiences and hope you get it sorted with the insurance with no problems.

Thats is so awful. I really feel for you. We have had a very similar experience. The shippers have totaly underestimated the weight of the stuff and then blamed it on us!!! The packers were rubish, triple wraped plastic cups but didnt really boder with the crystal glasses (luckily only 1 broke). Took 3 months to deliver it (out of the busy season too). The damage is close to $5000. The fight over the insurance is still on going.

Re: Shipping Rant!!!!!
I used Anglo Pacific for a groupage load and the service was above and beyond what I expected it to be. Professional from start to finish and not a mark on anything.
Truly sorry to read of your experience on here

I feel for you. I suppose it's like a lot of things/companies. Recommended by some but there will always be a horror story associated too unfortunately.

Feeling a bit sick reading all this as expecting my container in the next couple of weeks (not with GB Liners though).
