Hello all - am looking at all the bundles for the above and am now totally confuggled!!
I would like:
Cable tv with quite a few channels
Decent internet connection

Any suggestions from the couvites as to which is best way to bundle them?
Currently have internet and cable from shaw - and will get that moved to the new house in 2 weeks - just debatng do I add the landline or get that from telus?

We have found Telus here in Edmonton to be total PANTS internet that is...I lost count of how many emails disappeared.
We changed to Shaw when we moved to Sherwood Park and internet seems to be fine. We have to package TV/ internet/ phone, 1000 mins international calling per month free, this costs $150 per month. (we don't have any extra tv channels though, just the basic)

Telus high speed internet ranges in speed from 1.5Mbps to 6Mbps depending on your location.
Shaw just increased their high speed internet to 7.5 Mbps plus Power Boost available most locales.
When downloading TV shows I get an average of 8.4Mbps on Shaw I would expect the same kind of speed in Vancouver.

We have a Telus bundle for phone, HS internet, unlimited NA calling, 1000 international minutes for $90 pm. TV Star Choice satellite, $60pm, like the time shift on satellite, I can watch the late night movie in ON at 9pm in BC, also saves some spats with the kids as to who watches what. We looked into cable, but Rogers (DBS) wanted $4000 to install it!
The only issue I have with Telus is on the rare occasion I need tech support, it is getting hold of someone who understands The Queens English.

We have Shaw and are realy pleased with them. Our charges are:
ENTERTAINMENT BUNDLE: this gives you digital TV, Movie channels, and high speed internet:
$103.95
Digital TV service of seven hand picked channels @ $2.95 - minus $12.70 for the seven pack discount:
$7.95
Digital Phone service - basic:
$26.90
(This gives you calls to the UK, Canada and lots of other countries for 4c per minute).
Calls this month:
$1.56 for 39 minutes
Voicemail and call waiting:
$5.95
(We did have the more expensive phone service which gives 1000 free overseas calls but we never used that many...the basic at 4c per minute proved cheaper for us).
Bloomin' taxes:
$12.80
Total bill:
$153.16
Shaw are there for you 24/7 and you don't have to wait ages for an answer like Telus - I once waited for 45 minutes!

No - no handsets - we bought a set with three handsets - Vtech 5'8 Digital from Best Buy and they're really good too. You don't get any hassle from them either when returning items -unlike the inquest with Future shop!

We get 1000 international minutes a month and free calling anywhere in N. America.
I didn't receive any form of handset from Shaw.

Shaw's service for cable is excellent. I phoned and asked how much notice to cancel Setanta, expecting it to be a month like Sky. "No notice" was the answer. It was disconnected while I was on the phone. The same quick service applies to connection as well.

Good advice so far, that is, go with Shaw!
Digital phone is good for yer long distance, which bundle you get depends on how much you call the UK.
We have the Digital Phone Lite package, which is a little cheaper for our calling pattern than the 1000 free minutes one (UK minutes for us are 4 cents each).
The 'digital' bit is a box on the wall into which comes your cable, and out of which comes your internet and phone line (which goes back into a jack and 'enables' all of your other phone sockets around the house).
We bought a couple of Panasonic wireless handsets from Futureshop after having the digital box installed and the system works very well - the call quality to the UK is great.

Shaw have an office in Surrey where you can go and talk to real people who smile, say yes a lot, and sort out problems there and then.

into the phone socket on the wall - just the same as with a UK landline (except for the shape of the plug, that is). All the digital stuff happens behind the scenes, you don't need any 'special' cabling round the house, or special handsets.
We have a digital bundle here (from Cogeco, but Shaw's probably broadly the same) which consists of a box of tricks on the wall in the basement that takes the feed from the incoming cable, from there it's fed to the TVs, a router for internet, and the house's existing phone cabling for the phone. Make sure the box Shaw supplies has a battery backup for the phone service (it almost certainly will do), otherwise you'll lose the phone in a power cut. And make sure you have at least one old-fashioned wired phone in teh house too, as cordless phones don't work in a powercut either!

Shaw bundlers here.
We hate Telus. Really. Were with them for years, they dicked us around on numerous occasions. I would never go back. Shaw is NOT perfect but imo it's better.
