Hi,
I am moving to a new place at the beginning of next month, and have been looking at Shaw and Telus as both an Internet provider and cable TV providers.
It has been a while since this question has been asked, so which is better Shaw or Telus ?
Regards
GW

Have been with both interchangeably, and neither has anything over the other, IMO.

If you like recording a lot of TV and want multiple TVs being watched then the new Shaw EXO system would be more suitable.

The main difference as far as I can tell is that Telus signs you up for a contract (but gives you some free stuff) whereas Shaw is just month to month and you ca cancel any time.

You can do month to month with Telus. You just dont get any freebies, like the Galaxy tablet or free rental of the PVR and set top boxes.

We were on Shaw for internet and phone (and satellite because they bought out starchoice)for 6+ years only occasional problems, we are now on Telus for the telephone because they are the only provider for where we live now, less than a month into the service, so far no problems that would cause issues.

Depends where you are, in Vancouver I think it's a toss-up as they both have decent networks, basically whichever one you think has the best deal pricewise I would say.
Shaw has a "cancel at any time" plan but that's because you have to buy the PVR so you can't cancel at any time.
Personally I think if I lived there I would get DirecTV via satellite, which is illegal, but meh. The problem is finding someone who can do the installation as CRTC approved installers are not supposed to do it, plus you need a US bank account and a US address.
But you would still need an internet connection, but it solves the PVR/DVR question.

I've been with Shaw on a couple of occasions, with no contract, but received free HD PVR rentals every time (plus an extra PVR).
As long as you return it in the box when you cancel, there are no charges.

May I ask please, what can you expect to pay monthly for these packages?

For very basic, no extras, I recall one promotion with Telus was $25 a month, but you had to also have Internet or Phone.. which was also $25 a month.
They probably have a different deal now, but it starts to add up when you start adding movie packages, sports packages, family packages etc.
So I binned it, and now just download/stream everything off the internet.

Has anyone been affected by today's fire and explosion at the Shaw building in downtown Calgary?
I heard it was affecting businesses particularly all over Alberta!
Certainly we could not access the patients database at work this afternoon...

Neither, I now use an antenna you can get only online via 'the source' so I get free tv and the reception is as crystal clear as any cable tv. I use just my cell phone from public mobile and pay $21 a month for calls only as I can't stand texting or responding to texts. I take my laptop to the local coffee shop or library and use it free in there

I switched from Telus to Shaw a few years ago, for the (I admit eccentric) reason that I could not stand Telus's automated call centre: the "choose from one of these five options -- please spell your name --sorry I didn't undertand that, please repeat -- now choose from one of these three options..." rigmarole. It drove me nuts.
My only complaint about Shaw is that I don't understand their current range of cable TV packages. I'm going to have to get one of their call centre staff to explain it to me.
