dbd33, you should work for the tourist board
#35
Great description of a neighbourhood that changes quickly from one street to another. Last time I was in that area, the Harvey's was on the NW corner.
You should work for the Toronto Tourist Board, leading walks on the squallor/grit and urban depravity of Toronto (with side trips to the concrete banality of the GTA suburbs).

The Harvey's, which is run by Somalis who perhaps not coincidentally are vegetarians, is at Jarvis and Gerrard, on the NW corner of the junction. Allen Gardens stretches luxuriantly between Jarvis and Parliament from Gerrard north to Carlton. That makes the Harvey's in the SW corner of the park though not the junction.
The SW corner of that junction is the site of a convenience store where, bizarrely, they have to buzz potential customers in even during the day. I went there for some, er, stimulating magazines and, while there asked why the woman buzzed me in rather than anyone else "you look like stoner not crackhead" she explained, making a mistake about me common to street traders the world over. I considered cursing her out for her metric syntax but it's the colonies, what can you do?

Of course this all leads up to the question about whether dbd is a crackhead or a stoner... or both for that matter...

Indeed. Should I be taking 'location' advice from a crackhead? A stoner I can handle, if it's good enough to get buzzed into the store then it's good enough for me

I'm not a stoner, all the women I've lived with have smoked but I don't know if they did before moving in. It irritates me that people always want to sell me weed, my colleagues get offered cocaine.

Its a bit like in olden times when the newspaper sellers could tell if you wanted to buy an Evening Standard, or an Evening News. Well only a bit like.

Get out of Belfast and come anywhere in Canada - of course I would rec Saskatchewan. What job do you do - they are looking for all kinds of workers here and they reckond SK is going to be the next Alberta with an oil boom!
Have you applied for any visas yet?
