Default Seen in the back yard

Saw this little fella in the back yard yesterday. First time I've seen a humming bird.

How close to the house have you put the feeder. Ours in hanging outside our windwo so don't even know if it's too close to the house

It is a bit early in the year yet, but we get humming birds as soon as the buddleia flowers. This is right next to our patio doors.

That one looks like a Rufous Hummingbird.

I did a minor levels adjustment, a bit of noise reduction and resized.

Hope you don't mind.

Cheers
Steve

We had half a dozen hummingbirds in our garden last year - they love budlea (sp?) bushes...flock to them, and quite close to the deck.

Hummingbirds are so cool to watch...and also signal summer might be around the corner at last. Heres my best effort;

This is what we saw (briefly) in the back yard last weekend (but not my picture)

Never seen one before, although the wife has. Hand up if you know what it is Not that Im fishing for clues...

We've had humming birds for a few weeks now. At first I thought they were cute but now they are just a bloody pain. If we're out in the garden we have to be pretty quick at ducking and diving as they seem to think we are dinner. We went to our neighbours the other weekend and she has been feeding them for years. They was at least 30 flying around her deck. More like a swarm of locus than little birdies. They are lovely though and such a thrill for us Brits to see.

We've also had hummingbirds for several weeks. It can be a bit like a war zone as we have a very territorial hummer who sits on a nearby branch and divebombs any other visitors

We have also had a racoon visit the feeders - he climbed up onto the deck rail and emptied one feeder - he then climbed the pergola and knocked another feeder to the ground! We have also had bats visiting as they love the syrup

We now take the feeders in at night The photos were taken a few weeks ago in a snowstorm!

I was going to guess at a pine marten until I saw your last comment ... so I guess it's one of these! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisher_(animal)

If it's what I think it is, it may be good at climbing trees but it's shite at crossing roads. The 417 last weekend was littered with the remains of things looking rather like that.

Probably not those then as they are not particularly common.

Morwennas right...We saw a bloody great Fisher running along the back fence line (similar to the now legendary Bear incident)....technically they are a type of Marten..or a Weasel on steroids if you prefer.

Same thing here. They arrived about 2 weeks ago in small numbers but yesterday and today they've really been swarming. We have 4 feeders and this afternoon, at one point, there were at least half a dozen (a mix of rufus and calliope) at each feeder, with loads more whizzing around the place like lunatics. My youngest (5 year old) was sat on the swing in a red top when one decided to land on him and start trying to drink from his t-shirt
