Scottish Independence and PR

Bit of an open ended question here but what are the possible implications of an Independent Scotland on PR Applications.

I intend on applying in June of this year, Independence could be a reality after September...

Obviously all speculation, but I don't think it would entirely change the process. In all likelihood, London would still be processing their applications, since they process applications for Ireland and some other surrounding countries. Also, if it passes in the referendum, I don't think they'd be independent the next day - there'd presumably be a bit of lead time to sort out things like transferring passports and whatever else. Whether you'd still be classed as visa-exempt I'm not sure - I can't imagine Canada all of a sudden requiring Scots to have a visa, but it's hard to say...

It might help. You could claim to be a refugee; an opponent of independence facing persecution by the new government or an outspoken advocate of independence facing persecution by the same old government.

I dont think you will have a problem. If there is a win for YES ,Scotland wouldnt become independent until March 2016 and you will still have a British passport. The general concenus on here is it wont happen.

Just as a guess:

Scotland won't be on the list of visa waiver countries so even just for a holiday a Scottish travel visa will be required.

Applications will be sent to the new Scottish GMOH office. Proof of non achoholic dependence will be nessesary plus the ISLTs test.

The scot grote won't be recognized world wide, so exchange to the GBP will be nessesary, at a rate of 3-1 The typical scot will lose money. Then exchange to $$

Even if they were to vote for independence it wouldn't happen the day after the vote. It would be a long and drawn out process.

The cemeteries in QC are full of gravestones with Scottish names.

its funny, because if people started saying all muslims were terrorists and paid for things with goats then it would be a different story on here...

Re: Scottish Independence and PR

I think the issue would be:

You're applying as a British citizen, and when the visa is or would be issued, you may not be British anymore, but "Scottish".

That would also mean that you would have a "Scottish" driver's license not a UK license. The province of Ontario would exchange a British into an Ontario license, however not an Irish license. The same could be with a possible "Scottish" driver's license.

Even if Scotland would vote in favor of independence, it'll be a while before it becomes a complete new state. However, all things that apply between the UK and Canada would quite possible have to get renegotiated.

Of course migration is a uniquely Scottish phenomenom and only started when the union started.
