Hi
I am not sure if I am posting this in the right section so apologies if I have but I was just wondering what the average age is for kids starting school in BC .Our son will be 3 when we move so trying to figure out how long he will be needing private childcare before venturing into the public school system.
Thanks

Not here.
Some east van schools that are struggling have switched to full day to attract kids. but as a general rule, there is not full day K here, there is no money for it.

cool
one of the advantages to having municipal school boards, I guess. They can choose how to spend their money.

I know it took lots of complaining from the parents for them to actually offer it. It makes more sense if you have older children at school as well. At least you have time to actually do something rather than running back and forth to school all day!

Kindergarten is from age 5, basically, but they need to turn 5 in the same calendar year in which they start. So if a child's 5th birthday is in Jan, they'll be 5 years and 8 or 9 months old when they start school in Sept.
Here we have one elementary school where Kindergarten is 5 mornings a week, and another (the one that my sons attend) that instead does 3 full days one week, 2 days the next, which I *much* prefer.

Of course they are only providing 150 million for it, 50 million in 2010 and 100 million in 2011, so districts are worried there wont be sufficient funding for it.
