Rural Canada and their attitudes towards gays

Rural Canada and their attitudes towards gays
You know it's funny because I really only just realised that a couple of weeks ago I actually met my first gay person?????????????? (in Canada anyway)
I can't help but think it's because rural Alberta is very redneck and gay people would just as well move to a more tolerant part of the country such as Vancouver etc (and I hate to use the word tolerant - because why on earth should someone tolerate someone just because of their sexual persuasion) but it made me wonder if it was an Alberta thing - or are other areas of rural Canada - away from the big cities - just as closeted???

This rural area is isolationist, people have odd religions and curious habits; it doesn't matter if you're gay or Mennonite or Hell's Angels because people live far apart and don't talk to each other.

I don't know whether I live in rural Canada I think not, it's just a bit small. I haven't been here long enough to judge, everybody seems nice though, no prejudices detected so far.

I live in East Van near The Drive , well known as a Lesbian area . To me it's just my hood.

One of DD's besties is gay, I've worked with openly gay kids too, nothing out the norm in my world, I hate to think of the predudices they face daily though.

Thats what I'm wondering too- if it's the "nice and tolerant on the surface" but in reality it's "lets support that bill from down there in America where we can refuse to serve gays etc" because we did have this conversation if i remember not so long back about Canadians being superficial!

I've never lived in rural Canada, but here, in the outer suburbs of Toronto, it's not an issue amongst the young people. Nor is it in the moderately inner suburb where I work (with lots of interaction with young people).

Was it supposed to be funny or just existentially sad?

I've heard a lot, lot more racism than prejudice against gay and lesbians.

Lol !
We had an old guy over from Namaimo lady week buying hubby's Vespa. He was "horrified at the number of Asians" at the bank and asked hubby quite loudly how he dealt with it ?!
