I'm amazed. You did grow up in Britain in the 50's and 60's? Maybe this will refresh your memory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DBYU...yer_detailpage
We never watched it in our house.
As kids we only drank Ginger Beer and Sasparilla delivered weekly in stone bottles by The Man.

Oh heavens the words Tizer and Dandelion & Burdock have just bought back a shed full of memories....the Corona man used to come once a week with all sorts of those goodies.

When we lived on the US/Canada border I would pop over to Canada and buy squash from Zehrs supermarket. Don't know if you have them in Alberta though. Their own brand could, for some reason, be found with the drink mixers as if they should be mixed with alcohol.

Or just poured in your mouth, but a bit sweet for that. Not unlike space dust I suppose.
All I can find on the net is a reference to a sports/energy drink.

The Lipton crystals are pretty good, sometimes hard to track down. They have them at Pricesmart though and I think there are Pricesmarts in Edmonton. They taste almost identical to squash to me:

I used to make pitchers of that stuff all the time.

I did not experience Irn Bru as a kid, but later in life, as a result of a Geordie boyfriend; it was an essential part of his culture. It's a pop drunk by northern kids and their comic book hero Oor Wullie, a kind of northern version of Dennis the Menace. Oor Wullie speaks in a kind of Geordie/Lowland Scots dialect, so he has never travelled south, but IrnBru is to him what spinach is to Popeye.

Oh I thought I saw it in there, i'm talking probably 6 years ago though. Sometimes our local IDA sells it, then they run out then they get more and it's a really good price. The Brit shop in the Eau Claire Calgary sells squash, last time we were there it was Sainsbury's Hi Juice for nearly $8, I left that on the shelf, Robinsons in town is only $2.99 when I can get it.
