A place where snow shovelling and air conditioning are both unecessary - England most likely.

I don't blame ya.....Alberta is nice to visit and all that, but to live there

I spent 8 weeks in Wainright on exercise, couldn't wait to get out of that place

Not necessarily. I turned down a job offer in Scotland 8 months ago before I moved back to the Island. If only their damn economy would get a little better.

We have been in New Zealand now for ten years. In my mind I always thought we would retire back to the UK & so far closer to Europe and other countries.
I've not been back for 5 years now & I'm no longer sure I would slot right back in.

Wow, I can't imagine not returning to the UK for 5 years, I can only go a few months at a time before I need to pop back. We visit three or four times a year, on average.

What's it like in NZ? I've heard great things, but doesn't it also feel somewhat isolated?

Wow.. I haven't been back since Christmas 2004! I would like to go back soon for a visit but wouldn't go back several times a year. My parents are long gone and my sister and I talk every couple of weeks so I would imagine that makes a big difference - if you have a lot of family there still, it must make you want to go there more often.

10 years? Incredible! My Dad wasn't English and didn't go home for years either, but it didn't strike me as healthy somehow, but in his case like mine now where I live, there were different languages involved. I suppose being in Canada, your life is still in English. That is a massive thing, I think.

It isn't family so much (except for my Mum), but the feeling of being home and being able to speak to everyone in my own language.

Our journey is easy though: just under four hours to Calais then another hour or so from Dover. No flights necessary and I do think that makes a difference.

We can only afford for my OH to go back every 18 months/ 2 years to see his old Mum. Since my Dad passed away I haven't been back. Not because I don't want to but because this means my OH can go more often.

Oh that must be really difficult. I really hope you are happy in NZ (((hugs))).

I've got a NZ friend who lives in the same village here and she only gets home once in every three years or so. Her parents didn't meet her eldest child till he was nearly 4.

Aw thanks. We do our best. Our decision, so our responsibility but you know how far away the place is from anywhere really. We did factor in distance and health but the $$ did not work out as hoped and planned. You know how it is.

Yes Koala. It is a good looking place.
