This has been on talk radio 640 all day, now Charles Adler is talking about it.

An add went out on kijiji Toronto saying "apt to rent Muslims only need apply.". Several more adds were also found with the same content.

The discussions that this has stired up are that no one has stopped these adds for discrimination against all other applicants.

Now, what Adler is saying is what if this was the other way round? What if the add said "Christians only need apply? " or " Jews only" would that get ignored by the human rights folk.

Is this not the start of one rule for some and another rule for others. Is this the direction Canada is going, to scared to call a racist a racist, even if they are Muslim racists.?

Some one should stand up and delete or edit these Toronto adds and stop all this crap before it gets out of hand.

Of course it's wrong.

But it would be a fool indeed who thinks that making rules about advert wording is going to change anything. Landlords will continue to rent to whoever they want to.

It's the way the world is going and Jingsamichty is right, it wouldn't really change a whole lot even if the ad' was changed. Those racists would still be racist.

Yeh i see that and totaly agree. But isnt this how gettos are formed or molded. You never know a nice Christian couple may have charmed the advertiser.

Thats a good point. But only a very small % of Muslims are white. And the way this discussion was going it was stating that discrimination of this type is akin to racism

And yes, its racist, or some sort of ist, intollerant anyway. And yes, if it said, "no muslims'', or "christians only", it would be just as wrong, but the reality is that the person renting the place is just saving the time of those that they would have rejected anyway.

Reminds me of the stories me ma told us of her days as a student in London UK before meeting me dad.......sees an ad for a flat, knocks on the door only to be told "it just got rented yesterday", sends one of her white friends to the same house, "they get invited in for tea, and asked when do they want it"?

Let's not get Xenophobia mixed up with Racism. Things like this is what creates affirmitive action in work places, and the "don't ask, don't tell"

We rented a town hse from an Indian family for our first year. The area had a mix of all religions and races. We liked the mix, and a plus was i could get a decent curry or a proper kabob. Lol. "Keep it mixed"
