I had Tomtom for years in UK. Came with europe maps and worked fine. However, when I visited Canada and the States, Tomtom wanted some stupid price for the appropriate maps AND I had to sideload them on an SD card. Bought a $60 Magellan from a Walmart in San Diego which came with all 48 states plus Canada (Hawaii and alaska were extra). Still have it. Here in the Philippines i use Waze on both my smartphone and tablet - GPS only, no data needed except for initial map download.

We have a tom tom. No idea of the model. It was a cheap one for like 80 bucks we picked up in San Diego a couple years ago.
Works sufficiently well enough. A few hiccups here and there but no worse then google maps.

Garmin all the way. I managed to snag recently the 66LM 6" for $130 at Canadian Tire after price matching an Ontario retailer that had it on sale.

I had a TOM TOM 1 in the uk and it was great, never had a issue other than tall building In London Village and it took a while to find its route after a tunnel. Used it in France too.
