Recipe help
Does anyone have a good scone recipe they would kindly share? Tried making them today and they were not quite right. I used a recipe from a British website and there must have been something lost in translation.
Thanks :-)

Re: Recipe help
Here's one that is pretty foolproof. The trick to remember is to use the butter straight from the fridge, so that it stays light and airy. You can buy self raising flour from Walmarts (Robin Hood).
Easy Classic Scone Recipe
I've also made sweet ones using bisquik, surprisingly enough they were pretty good - but I can't find the recipe anymore, sigh.

Re: Recipe help
Thank you very much. I will give it a try. I followed an online one yesterday but they turned out very dense and too sweet.

There are two scone recipes in the Recipe Thread in The Lounge. There's a link in my signature and there's an awesome spreadsheet in the first post to find the recipes easily.

Thank you so much. I will take a look. I think it was the flour I used and trying to get the right amount of baking powder etc. Thank you both of you for taking the time to reply.

Re: Recipe help
oh gosh, thank you... I may try the easy way...because I have to make them for a team teaming at work on Friday and don't have time to test other recipes. I know scones are supposed to be simple but I can't take the chance lolol I will be the laughing stock if they are awful, especially after I boasted that I am the world champion at making them. Wish me luck :-)

Re: Recipe help
Biggest mistake people make is to work the dough too much and roll it out. Should work it only until everything is mixed and then lightly flatten it slightly and cut out. When they turn out crap the dough has been mixed too long. Got a need for a cheese scone now...

Re: Recipe help
I made the PC ones last night as a test. They were ok but I think...as the person above says...I might a have mixed them too much. I felt that the mixture would not have come together otherwise. Is it ok to add extra milk if needed?

Re: Recipe help
I've always found that exact measurements don't work as flour behaves differently depending on temp, age, quality etc etc so one day you may need a little extra milk and another day a little less. Only add in small amounts as it's obviously easy to add more but impossible to take some out.
