Was it really a hunger strike?

So Chief Theresa Spence has finally ended her alleged hunger strike.
She managed approx 44 days on this hunger strike. Bobby Sands died after 66 days on his. So was it really a hunger strike?

Nope

Re: Was it really a hunger strike?

From looking at pictures of her, I think she had a considerable starting advantage over Bobby Sands... after 44 days she's probably still twice the weight of Sands at the start of his strike.

It was probably a Canadian hunger strike - refusing all food except for donuts and sugary coffee.

It doesn't matter. Whether you agree with her or not she has made her point and got it into the press. From that perspective her "hunger strike" was a success. And also ice cream isn't food.

Oh good. The opportunity for some acceptable racism.

I have First Nation family here, as many will know, but I'm still not convinced on the points. There are claims regarding land etc and counter claims of mismanaged funds etc ( I had heard her husband was receiving a substantial amount per day as a consultant to the band - not sure if this is right or wrong ). Even looking at the net at what the campaign was about, I'm still unclear understanding it.

Welcome to the club. Most people are sympathic to the conditions that some bands live under but then you hear of all millions that magically goes missing.

And it's going to get worse now that they gave status to the Metis

None as yet Im thinking he posted that in anticipation of there being racist comments posted.
I cant see how asking how this particular band/reservation allegedly spent 104 million dollars with limited accountability as per the audit details though TBF to Chief Spence she wasnt the Chief when the money was allocated over the last few years. Yes its a touchy subject but when Im on Govt travel status I have to account for what I spend if claiming it back. The Govt are merely trying to establish where the 104 million went and what it was spent on. Thats called accountability not racism.

Anyone that receives money from Government should be accountable for it. I don't see anything racist with that.

Accountability and the federal government can rarely be mentioned in the same sentence.
