Smile Re-Built Title Cars - ICBC

Hi guys,

Has anyone come across a definition of how much damage repair slaps a "re-built" title on a car in BC.

The ICBC website doesn't define it. In online car forums the subject creates more debate than religion & politics.

Has anyone seen the formula or definition?

Thanks so much!

Sarah

I believe you will find it is when a car has been written off for insurance purposes. It is bought from the insurer and if put back on the road, has a rebuilt status.

With ICBC, cumulative damage to a vehicle over $2000 has to be reported on the sale of a vehicle. ICBC also have a record of this.

If it's anything like Alberta, a vehicle with rebuilt status is super checked after repair.

My car's book value is about $3k. It is a 2005 and has 85k on the clock.

A rear bumper & trunk lid supplied and fitted on my car is about $2k.
ICBC would write this car off (pay me) and then put it up for auction.
A dealer would buy my car from auction, fix the trunk and bumper and sell it with a rebuilt status for $3,500.

if you find a car you like with that status, find out what the damage was.
