Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Not sure what kind of ants they are, but they don't seem to like sugary stuff, they ignore the traps, both types we bought, but drop cheese, or such and they come out like crazy, maybe some sort of ant that doesn't like sweets...?
Update: I think they are likely carpenter ants, the signs are there, debris around the floor where they hang out, swarmer with wings present, they are bigger and look like the photos on various pest control websites. We have notified the manager, but they may not fix it anytime soon, government anything isn't very quick nor efficient, considering they still haven't sent anyone to fix the heat. :sneaky: Manager says there is nothing he can do about the ants, yeah right but not much one can do in government housing, the rules are not the same as private rentals, I'll just hire a pest control company myself when we have the funds to do so. Scratch that, no point in hiring a company just for one unit, in multi housing buildings just treating 1 unit wont fix it, they will just come back as chances are they are living in more than one unit. |

If it is a wooden structure (I think you said it was), carpenter ants could be a big problem as they make their nests in wood. We saw lots of them outside around out house in NJ. We had Terminex in every month to keep them at bay…mind you I am a little phobic about bugs. :o https://www.canada.ca/en/health-cana...nter-ants.html |

There are as bad as termites. Sis had them in Freehold, NJ. Down here, Jim and I are battling with carpenter bees drilling holes in the wooden beams of the roof of the patio.

A family member gets a lot of ants in one room, they come in from outside under the skirting board (baseboard) and seek out dog biscuits! Ant traps havent worked, they have put ant powder down outside but it doesnt do much either, they have to be careful what they use / where, because of pets. In the UK I used to use Diatomaceous Earth - you can buy 'food grade' DE at Canadian Tire and other stores.. the food grade varieties won't harm pets, so I've suggested they try that this year. :) https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/searc...aceous%20Earth https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...e0e07f462b.jpg |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
This old style heating system seems difficult to fix.
The maintenance person came 2 days ago and replaced the thermostat and some valve in the pipe, but now while the living room heat is off, the bedroom is now blasting heat, but only 1 thermostat for the entire unit, so another maintenance request in. Everyday is getting warmer, and now we got to move the bed to the living room as the bedroom is too hot, and its no easy feat moving a king size mattress around. |

When you cant do laundry whenever you want, you quickly realize how little clothing you have.

Hand wash, and with the high temperature in your bedroom they will dry in no time.

Agreed I handwash some things, but IMO the bathroom is a better place to dry them. Hang them in the shower or bath to drip dry.
Of course you can get much moisture out by wringing the clothes out in a towel. |

True but I was remembering that he said his bedroom was ridiculously hot right now.

Door Dash lets you sign up, go through background check, add banking info, then tell you your area is full and they will add you to their waitlist.
Would be nice if they tell you that upfront before wasting time on the process to sign up. |
