Those of you who know me (so just you Nicky) will know healthy food is not my strong suit but channelling my inner hipster, lentil-weaver I thought I'd try kale. God it stinks, and tastes just as bad. I ate it but I don't think the salt, pepper, butter and pea meal bacon it took to do so will have added to the health benefits.

I steamed it. What did I do wrong?

We should have one of our healthy gatherings!! No tortoises allowed!!

Have you noticed that green smoothies are all the rage?

I love lentils. Seriously, lentils are about the only thing that could make me even consider giving up meat. And I love meat.

I also love kale. Huge bunches of it chopped up and added to soup. Or brushed with oil and grilled crispy like sweet tobacco.

Pearl barley too. I'd be a great vegetarian if I didn't love meat so much. And fish.

I like Kale if it's really fresh, but once it starts smelling like old socks forget it. As for tortoises - too high in protein for them, especially if shop bought ;)

Me too. In fact nearly all pulses are great. Especially done in an Indian style gravy.

I have tried kale every way I could possibly think of, but I really don't like it. I have finally given up, kale can stay with liver - anywhere but my kitchen!

I do love lentils but I just can't see them taking the place of bacon!!!

Hubby doesn't like pulses so there's no way of us becoming vegetarian... the older I get though the more thoughts I have on becoming vegetarian. Not because I'm over sentimental about killing animals but I don't enjoy meat as much. Then when I'm cutting it up to cook I keep getting this thought in my head about how repulsive it is...it's dead flesh.
