No I don't want a space before a comma I want to know why some put a space before a question mark or exclamation point.

They do have a purpose whether they annoy you or not is beside the point.

I'll get me co@.
It was a 18th century term attributed to British navel officers who, while dinning at a Jamaican restaurant with its notoriously laidback service, would demand in an annoyed manner, that the waiter should "get his goat."

Why did they want his goat? Did it have their bill?

Maybe it ate their bill, goats will eat anything.

Don't be obtuse, its obviously the curried goat they'd ordered for dinner.

I think I do this sometimes. I think I started it when I thought there was just so much text, I thought it looked better with a wee space.

But really, there is no good excuse or good reason.

Did you really mean navel? (and dinning)

I am certainly guilty of the dots and dashes, (and the multiple question marks and exclamation marks too), otherwise most of my spelling errors are a case of brain not catching up with fingers. I rarely use spell-check, except when I am aware that I'm unsure how to spell a word. However I expect I make mistakes unwittingly as well.

........ I also overuse ------- brackets!!!!!!!

Should one leave a space before an emoticon, or not???? ........

How about those dorks who leave a huge gap in their text for dramatic effect? (mentioning no names, but BC knows of whom I write!)
