Default which printer / scanner /copier?

Hello Everybody,

More advice please! I'm in need of a new printer / scanner /copier (for home use) that is reliable & that doesn't have outrageously expensive cartridges - possibly ones I could refill...
Any recommendations please? I'm in Vancouver.
My previous one was an HP & it was utter crap despite the fact I paid £300+ at the time - as it kept rejecting it's own cartridges & was slow & noisy...

Is Epsom any good?

Thanks!!

Any of the cheap ones are junk. I found Brother to be the worst (at any price). Ended up buying the Canon, very pleased with it.

Epsom is nice, used to live near there, it's where they have the races. Epson is OK, but still prefer Canon.

Try getting ink cartridges from 123 ink cartridges. I have ordered a couple of times for my epson (it's been a pretty good printer too)http://www.123inkcartridges.ca/?gcli...FR5qgwod12G3aw

oceaneoneill,

Since you are in Vancouver try NCIX they have very good deals and good quality euipment - I bought a samsung printer and canon scanner/copier at a very competitive price and it is relatively inexpensive to run.

Costco do a good line and a warranty like no other. I had a Brother that turned out to be a piece of junk and the took it back a year later. Ended up with the Canon 8450.

Their ink jet are reasonable as well. http://www.costco.ca/Common/Category.aspx?ec=BCCA-EC15225-Cat2148&pos=1&whse=BCCA&topnav=&cat=2151&eCat=BCCA |84|2148|2151&lang=en-CA

I have also used Frontier PC, delivered to the door for $10 delivery.

I paid a similar price ($50) for a monochrome laser like this in 2006, put a $70 cartridge in after the 1000 page one it came with ran out....4 years later it still prints like new on that same cartridge. Best printer we have owned.

I would not buy an all-in-one.....much prefer a stand alone Canon scanner to compliment the laser printer.

If I need something color, I print in a store...but may get a color laser in addition to the cheap monochrome at some point.....Ink jet...no thanks.

What he said^^^^

I have both laser and colour inkjet printers but seldom use the inkjet as I usually print to the laser. If you want to print photographs it's actually cheaper to get them printed at Costco or someplace like that, than to use a photo inkjet printer.

These days if they are cheap enough they are throw away and do the job, the higher end ones are very good but will cost $1000+.

Depends entirely on what it is used for. For photo printing, inkjet is by and far the best solution.

Photo printers are not necessarily the best solution, see my post above.

It does depend on what you print too and the purpose. For myself, I can only get the correct color calibration between printer, computer and monitor by doing it myself.

Have you ever tried printer profiles from Dry Creek Photo?

http://www.drycreekphoto.com/index.html

Unfortunately you need to be printing at Costco in most locations in Canada for them to be of any use.

Had not seen that before, thanks. Right now I am using NEC Spectraview to create my own ICC profiles for each device. One issue with using a lab is I have to output to sRGB colour space, I use ProPhoto which does not work with minilab printing. My Canon Pixma 9500 makes some nice prints though, not for an insignificant price.

I will take a closer look at Dry Creek.

I have a lexmark x6500 4 in one, bought it on a price match for $49 2 years or so ago and it hasn't failed me yet.
