Price of wine in Canada
#1
Just curious about the variation in price of wine across Canada.
As an example of a bog standard item:
Wolf Blass Yellow Label Shiraz / Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
Calgary Deerfoot Meadows Canadian Superstore $14 each ($13 for min purchase 6). Seen a flyer for some place near Walmart on Macleod at $12 each.
How does this compare with elsewhere?

That Wolf Blass is $17.95 here. Wine is expensive in Quebec.

As it seems that Alberta is the source of cheaper wine (who knew the 'bertans had such sophisticated tastes
) it begs the question: 'Is alcohol distribution in AB a provincially controlled monopoly as it is in say ON, NS & NL?

Let's do beer now. My IGA flyer is showing domestics (Molson Dry and Bud) at $23.36 (excl.), with the lights at $21.32.

How can Bud be a domestic beer?
Edit: I'm unfamiliar with this Molson you talk of as I prefer Keiths as my domestic tipple.
Is this the stuff? Molson Special Dry 12pk NL 0.34 $22.25

Bud is brewed under licence by Labatt and it's the biggest-selling beer in Canada. I reckon that qualifies it as domestic.

Well I never. Never would drink the stuff that is, so that's news to me. Rather puts the lie to the Canadian assertion of superiority over Americans in the quality and strength of their beer doesn't it?

You can't really compare 12-packs and 24s. For some reason, 12s of domestic cost almost as much as a 24. It's interesting to note that the supermarket flyers never show 12s of domestic.

The strength of beer in the USA varies from state to state, because of regulations. In some, Bud is only 3.2%. In most, it is 5%, which is what it is in Canada (same as Blue).
