Post Graduate Diploma
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a UK Post Graduate Diploma and a Canadian Post Graduate Diploma, if any?
I studied for one recently in the UK and it was at UK Masters level (i.e you had to have a degree to gain entry) however some posts suggest that a canadian PGD is at a different level. Obviously on my CV I would like to use the correct Canadian terminology for the level of my course.

For example, an elementary school teacher who was armed with a bachelors degree might decide that he/she wanted to become specialist music teacher. In this case, he/she might do a Diploma in Music Education to enhance his/her music teaching skills at the elementary school level (kindergarten to grade six).
Although that diploma would provide the teacher in question with some extra skills, it would not be the equivalent of a masters degree. Yet it would be a post graduate diploma, in the sense that the teacher would have had to have had a bachelors degree in order to be accepted into the study program.
Oh yes, I should clarify that I'm talking about Alberta.
It would help us to help you if you were more specific about the nature of your studies, that is, the field in which you had obtained the post graduate diploma.

Generally speaking, a post graduate diploma in Canada is a course of study that one has undertaken after one has completed a bachelors degree. However, if it is a post graduate diploma (as opposed to a post graduate degree), it is not necessarily deemed to be at the masters level.
For example, an elementary school teacher who was armed with a bachelors degree might decide that he/she wanted to become specialist music teacher. In this case, he/she might do a Diploma in Music Education to enhance his/her music teaching skills at the elementary school level (kindergarten to grade six).

I am studying for an Ontario College Diploma which is called post graduate as you have graduated from High School. I reckon it compares with the O levels I took in 1970.
Edit, being mean there. Its probably A level standard. I am also studying by distance learning with Dundee University, a PGCert in Medical Education. Its at M level and is more analytical than the College Diploma

Re: Post Graduate Diploma
Post graduate diplomas in the UK are studied at Masters level, ie the depth of understanding and analysis is at the same level as for Masters. It isnt a Masters degree but can be turned into one by additional study and a thesis. There are also post graduate certificates at Masters level. Ie PgCert in Management, PgDip in Management and MBA.

I am from BC and it has never crossed my mind that a postgraduate diploma is anything but a diploma done beyond the BA/BSc level.

Re: Post Graduate Diploma
My UK Post Grad Diploma (PgD) was definately studied at masters level, however what would I call the Post Grad Diploma on my Candadian CV (which I am compiling at the moment) to ensure readers know the correct level of study? There is a big difference between diploma at High School level and Masters Level and I dont want that to be Misinterpreted!
