We have an above ground pool. Even though our pool is just under 1 year old, yesterday Mr Y-C-D had to replace both hoses to and from the pump due to perforations. The pump was brought indoors over winter.
The pool water level is high up the skimmer but when we start the pump it cuts out after about 10 seconds. Could this be down to air in the hoses? If so how do we get rid of it?
If not, what else could be wrong?
Thanks

I have fixed the problem (I think).
I googled around and the problem seems to be the remote control I fitted to the pump. I removed it and hey presto, the pumps seems to be working properly.
It was a a timer suitable for outdoors but I am now thinking the voltage or whatever wasn't suitable.
Anyway, happy now. If the sun stays out maybe we can take our first dip in a few days (once the water has heated up
)

If you have a thermal blanket on it to retain heat overnight, it will heat up plenty.
Eventually.

A thermal blanket?! I think I will stick with just watching the kids splash around in it and then spend 2 hours warming them back up to normal body temperature!!

We stick our solar blanket on at night (I'm confused by the name as it doesn't get to see any sun!) and without heating, the pool's been around 82 degrees for the last month, a few cold days excepted. My neighbour's pool's just gone green, he never takes his blanket off - not sure if that will have contributed or not.

Thermal (Solar) blanket is perfectly normal for a pool...it floats on top, stops evaporation during the day and cooling overnight, and helps heat the pool by converting sunlight to heat. Think of it as a fancy pool cover.

Our looks like a giant sheet of blue bubble wrap. Keeping your pool covered does contribute to algae problems. The cover should really only be used at night or the occassional daytime when you are not using the pool.
Up until a few days ago, the weather has been too cold to heat up the pool. Now, the last few days have been a lot warmer and should continue to get even hotter so it won't be long until we, the owners of pools without heaters, will be able to enjoy our first dip.

It should be very pleasant next week.
When I'll be in France.

So does it stay in the pool all time? Can you tell I am new to all this pool malarky?!
#13
It will extend the time an unheated pool is usable but it's a bit of a faff to take on and off all the time. I don't bother.
