Please help with speeding ticket!!

Ok so a couple months ago i was caught doing 89km/h in a 50 zone. Now i know this is speeding but i was picked out of a group of cars all doing around the same speed as me. Also that 50km/h zone i was caught doing 89 in was around 100 meters from the 80 zone, yet again i was picked out of a bunch of cars. Lastly i was pulled over exactly 3.6 km away from where i was caught speeding is that allowed? Should i bring this up in my trial tommorow?

Im in Victoria, British Coulumbia too incase anyone is from there i can tell you the location.

Thanks you if you can help answer anything

Trial? It got to trial? You were speeding, and have admitted it. Pay the fine like everyone else.

I don't think whether you think it fair or not will have much bearing on the case. You were speeding; you were pulled over; you were ticketed; you should probably have paid up and got over it.

Good luck in your trial. Your liability for costs will likely be more painful than the fine and the licence endorsement.

Would you be coming forward to say "sorry officer, I was guilty too" if they stopped someone else other than you? You got caught...it happens.

Whats "fair" got to do with it? Everyone speeds, not everyone gets caught. You were caught, so that's just too bad. Too late to say "Just pay the ticket", but maybe the cop wont show up in court...

I guess this is another case of YABWB.

Is there any significance to your user name?

Are you driving a Talon like one of these?

http://www.carsearch.com/photos/783165.jpeg

Sort of an invitation to be ticketed especially as you admit you were actually speeding.

You should have just paid the fine instead of feeling put upon.

Sorry no sympathy.

Was it a "construction zone"? If so, you may find the fine is doubled!

I'm sorry to laugh, but I can see you in court stamping your little foot, and wailing "It's not FAIR!!:curse:" :p

Hey, welcome to the real world! Wake up, smell the coffee....life aint fair...pay the fine, cut your losses and move on (adhering to the speed limit as you do so)...;)

What really amuses me is when people state speed traps as a reason to leave the UK ..... as if we didn't have them here! :p

OH never had any in the UK either, had 2 in Manitoba - both fixed cameras. One was legit, completely ignorant of the posted limit; the other was for being 0.3 sec after a red light, in a snow storm. The photo was so bad you could hardly see the reg plate through the snowflakes, but he couldn't afford to take the day off to fight it so he coughed up the fine.

None so far in Ontario, touch wood, no fixed cameras here though.

I have been so lucky lately, again touch wood, twice in the past fortnight I've been flashed a warning by oncoming cars and avoided the plod. One of those times I was on a road where the limit is 60 but the usual speed of the traffic is 120 or so. Behind the cop was a small fleet of tow trucks eagerly awaiting confiscated cars.

We get flashed around here too. I can never return the favour, stupid headlights can't be flashed unless they're on - no use in the daytime.

Speeding tickets are part of modern day living folks...no cameras here in Ontario...something to do with the Liberals I think...

Seriously, if you are caught out, pull on your big boy shorts and suck it up! :(....its part of the price we pay for being in a hurry!

And if you're stupid enough to drive under the influence and get pulled over, just admit it and do the friggin breathalyze test, so the people who called you in, won't have to lose a day's work to go and testify against you in court. :frown:
(No, I don't really mind, but it'd be easier if I didn't have to. :))

If you are stupid and irresponsible enough to get nailed for DUI...hell mend you! You deserve everything you get...and then some!...in spades!

Having said that, in the old days, the overtime attracted in having to go to court on your days off to give evidence in such cases was always welcome...

You got paid to testify?! Hmmmm, might have to look into that!

Only if the trial took place on one of yours days off...then it was paid overtime. Things changed a number of years ago and all they did was re-rosterd your day off:(...retired now, just a distant memory...best place for it too...:D

I guess I shouldn't have posted that. Yesterday I got pulled over in the speed trap on that road, 115 on the gun. I was passing a couple of cars. Unusually for me I spoke up, the officer said

"you know you shouldn't have been passing there?"

"No, whyever not?"

"There was an oncoming car"

"Yes, I saw it, miles away, I had a clear shot and wanted to pass the front Volkswagen, it was going very slowly"

"Very slowly because the limit here is 60"

"Er, yes, I suppose it is, one forgets"

She said speeding at 55 over is a $300 fine and 4 points and gave me a ticket for inappropriate overtaking instead, she said there's no points in such a ticket but that remains to be seen.

Afterward I followed a Corrola at a prudent 50mph (still over the limit but within the acceptable margin), the driver didn't flash anyone but held her arm out of the window performing perfect "slowing down" hand signals. I liked that, it's kind of a secret signal saving only Brits from the filth.

Sorry to hear that dbd !
Tried to find out what the penalty is for such an offense
Here is a link for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (it says 3 points for "improper passing") if that's the same thing ?

Ah well, if so it sure beats the 6 points for being 50 over, nevermind that the cops have the option to confiscate your car.

Yep, suppose it could have been worse. Didn't know they had the power to confiscate your car though !

Yep. It's a new law. Most speed traps now have tow trucks waiting.

Souvette has just had to pay a ticket on a vehicle that isn't even hers.

When we kicked out The Boy a couple of months back, his scooter went with him. It was registered in his mum's name. He was given the paperwork to get the registration changed. He didn't. He did, however, swap the scooter for something else, also neglecting the paperwork bit. The new owner promptly slapped on an illegal exhaust. He had no ID on him when the police stopped him. Guess where the ticket came?

I presume The Boy and/or the scooters new owner will be getting the bill at some point?
