Re: Plasma or LCD?
Tuppence Mr MMC did that just a couple of weeks ago!!!!!!!! And then had to get wireless keyboard / mouse / other computery type guy stuff to go with it.
I got my own back and bought a very nice indeedy entertainment unit - so he couldn't complain (all the electrical gizmos fit in it) and it's a pretty sauve piece of kit - luckily the TV fitted inside, I forgot to measure it :o |

Caught you. We have to choose the bathroom fittings, carpet, and furniture before you get to blow the rest of the budget on boys toys :curse::wub::rofl::p

Re: Plasma or LCD?
Unless you are getting HD then I would stick to the biggest tube TV possible, picture quality non HD on my 42" plasma and 37" LCD is rubbish on Shaw digital.
I was recommended a Plasma if I wanted to watch more sports as the picture refreshes quicker than an LCD....????? Couldn't tell you if that is correct though..! Cheers Dobbie:thumbsup: |

Cheers Dobbie:thumbsup: The reason regular TV is so lousy is that it is only 480 lines or something like that and it's interpolated so if there is any movement in the picture it looks fuzzy. I saw a friends Sony Bravia a few months ago and noticed the same ghosting that Biiiiink saw I wasn't impressed although he thought it was great. Perhaps I was imagining things. |
Re: Plasma or LCD?
We went in a local shop on Saturday. TVs stereo, laptops etc, I was going there to choose a Blackberry and took MOH along as a pair of ears. Trouble was I lost him very soon after we arrived as he was mesmerised by all the screens.
Our conclusion was that Panasonic plasma are the best. Second conclusion was that MOH needs a basement rec room with huge screen, comfy settee and fridge for his pop. |

Re: Plasma or LCD?
we have a Sony Bravia and you do get a very slight fuzzy effect around the edges if you look close but on the whole you don't notice it. I have seen a lot worse on a neighbours Samsung.
If i had the money i'd buy a Pioneer plasma |
Re: Plasma or LCD?
What I hear = The fuzziness gets worse the quicker your image is moving with LCDs. So plasma for sports fans (richer colour, no ghosts). LCD for gamers (less 'burning' with static images).
Sony claim to have almost done away with ghosting w/sports etc though on S and V series Bravias, but their 8m/s response is still nowhere near the 2m/s you can get on decent LCD monitors simply because of scale. Have a lewk, see which you prefer :) |

Re: Plasma or LCD?
Plasmas
pros: Better picture quality smother picture Bigger picture Cons: older ones use allot of electricity Picture burn is fairly easy LCD Pros: smaller Cheaper can be better with the black (but this will depend on manufacturer) Cons: picture quality is not as good Ghosting on moving images eg the footy ball If you look at the text on some LCD's (on the screen) you will see digital blocky ghosting around it. But it come down to what you can afford, what you like the look of and how big the OH will let you have. ;) Do your home work, look around and read as much as you can before buying any new TV. Have a look in the stores when a match is on eg hockey, futty, eta, so you can judge fast moving images as well as the normal ones. Don’t forget most sales agent are on commotion and the one I spoke to on my recky trip where not that clued up. (I have been in the TV design business for over 10 years and I have a CRT TV in my living room.) |
Re: Plasma or LCD?
I'm surprised people are still complaining about the ghosting issues. I've had my LCD for over a year and have never noticed these issues, even when watching sport. I was under the impression that modern screens have fast enough refresh times to largely eliminate this problem.
