Pissed already!!!!
Hi all
NovaGirl here, have the font sizes changed since earlier? Well, anyway i spoke to the QE11 today & they have booked me in for, well i have to spend sometime with them near the end of August. On a positive note i am very excited of having the possibility of having my health back, but i must confess i feel a little nervous. We thought we would celebrate with a drink & as i have only just started to drink the odd beer here, thats what we had. Ok, in under 10 minutes i was well flushed, this made me cross, followed by the lack of keyboard skills. 15 minutes later i had necked half a bottle! By the way that was half a bottle in total gone & half left. My eye started to hurt, then my head, by this time i was a really deep deep red. I am not a heavy drinker, never have been, but now on the road to recovery my question is in the future what drinks should i go for? Beer isn't really my thing but i thought its pretty weak, i can drink that. Please please do tell what drinks do you drink? Which drinks can you drink without falling over? I need help! Imagine going to diner, being asked if you would like a glass of wine, saying no, well ok then. Wait for it in 10 minutes i will be smiling & not at anything funny, usually i can hold back the sick before the meal is served. All i want is to beable to have a couple of drinks without well, being silly, no idea what i can do about the flush thing. |

I'd recommend Absinthe. I tried giving karma for that one but I've been told to spread it around a bit first |
Re: Pissed already!!!!
I am just not very good at drinking these days. There was a time where I would have drank anything that I could find, but those days are over.
I am also quite wimpish about the after effects. I used never to get a hangover, that progressed to drinking on a Saturday night and having to veg out all day Sunday. Nowadays, I still feel ill on Wednesday:rofl: The thing with drinking is that it is like any other skill. If you want to be good at it you just have to practice. So, stick at it and when you have done enough of it you may perfect the art. In the meantime, just drink anything that has a low alcohol content and alot of mixer. I am currently into a 70's style beverage of Martini and lemonade, not the vodka martini's you get over there, but the straight vermouth type that passes for martini in the UK. What ever you drink....enjoy:thumbup: |

I bet grape-flavoured Kool-Aid is nice. It will certainly cure that flushing thing. |
Re: Pissed already!!!!
Hi Novocastrian
This could have been a possiblility but its bitter to the taste, i know little else about it in terms of strenght, availability & cost! Know of any sweet drinks? LYNN! I have practiced & for 20 years, well a bit more, since being here we have drank even less latley, you aren't helping! At least you had your time. Come on Lynne name me a couple of nice sweet drinks that i can buy & rremember where i am on the North Shore, if i can't get it what good is it to me? Babycham? Well how thoughtful! |

HWP - is this really true?

I don't think she's from the North Shore and you've all been tricked.

I recall New Glasgow and the coast north of there as not being much but I'm not sure that that's the area in question. Cape Breton was charming but poor and full of stunned people. Everything was closed on Sundays in NS which was a bother. Mostly I remember a lot of whining about Halifax being the back of beyond and requests to send basic food stuffs unobtainable down there. I assume the North Shore has even less amenities than Halifax; is there a jerk chicken place? How about a curry house? |

People still shoot their lunch round here.... only joking, but amenities like fine dining IMO are limited. There are many compensations though, its all about personal preference. If you know where Truro is i am about 45 minutes north of there in a small town called Amherst. |

Oh dear you really have no idea, it sounds like you live in the lap of luxury, comparatively speaking that is.

I second the Absinthe (buy the Polish knock-off stuff). Or try a 50/50 mix of sterno and windshield washer fluid from Zellers.

I mapquested. Yes, I went through there. Why do you live there?
We didn't want to live in a city, i have been seriously ill so we thought if we can find a town of say 10K people, good basic facilities, lower cost of living then we would look at this & it would probably be a really good start. I have not been driving so forgive me if i don't get my distances time wise exact! We thought being between 2 airports, not far from the coast was a pretty good location. Our kids love it here, we have taken them to Northport beach but no way near as much as we would of liked. We have excellent doctors based in Pharmasave on Robert Angus Drive, an excellent specialist who i use to see i think on Prince Arthur Street plus a really good dentists on Laplanche. When we first got here & set up bank accounts ever time we went in the girls were given suckers, the staff were so helpful, we felt very very welcome. NovaGirl |
Re: Pissed already!!!!
I have never been pissed in my life, other than pissed *** when no form of alcohol works. Must admit to some fun times with people that have tried to drink me under the table. I once took on an author that had written a book on alchol and drinkers. There were 6 of us at the start and a table full of every drink you could think of. By the early hours there was just me and the guy left sitting and one sober person being the judge, to see who was going to be left standing up, when we both got up from the table.

NovaGirl Don't feel that you have to justify yourself to anyone. You live where you live, just ignore any idiots who try to wind you up. |
Re: Pissed already!!!!
What about the bank in Amherst, and the Church, and the Chemists?
Quite unique aren't they - but why should I talk about them - you're from there you must know all about them. Go on tell everyone about them and maybe they'll add Amherst to their reccies. |

Perhaps she doesn't want load of newcomers. Perhaps she has a life. Perhaps she isn't so lonely that she needs new neighbours. Perhaps the people who already live there are her friends.....I could go on
