You know in the film threads where they use plausible, but increasingly worse, news items to lead up to everyone getting nuked. Well, this seems a bit like that.

I haven't seen it in the guardian but on CBC radio this morning I heard a report that the Russians said they believed the plane was shot down from the ground.

I wondered how likely this was given the apparent impossibility that a passenger plane could have been shot down from the ground a few weeks ago.

Granted it was a different area, but would they be better armed? Am I being too simple in thinking if you can't shoot down a big, slow plane flying in a straight line, how can you shoot down a faster, smaller one whose pilot is more used to taking evasive action?

I heard that too. Hard to believe any Nato nation would knowingly shoot down a Russian jet.

They'll smooth it over for a variety of reasons.

I think one of the reasons Putin is really angry is the Russian jet was back in Syrian airspace travelling away from the border when it was shot down.
Border incursions happen all the time around the world and escorting the offender out of your airspace is the normal practice followed by a diplomatic protest.

The fact that the meglomanic Erdogan is seriously unhappy because he wants Assad out and Putin/Iran have saved his regime probably had a lot to do with the shooting down.

If Turkey shoots at a Russian plane again I think Russia has given notice it will shoot back.

Maybe this is some ploy to start some multi-country war? Who knows anymore.
