One of my Canadian friends posted this on facebook the other day......
"A REAL parent makes sacrifices in life to ensure their children are happy, healthy, well taken care of and will do anything for them. They always come first and always will. A parent loves their children unconditionally no matter what they have done or what they can do. Put this as your status if you're a parent who will always put your children first."
I read it and thought, sacrifices yes, loves unconditionally, yes (but don't always like them very much!!).........but always puts them first?? Who does that.......surely we can't be the only couple that palms their kids off with a child minder to have a child free night out together every once in while, or puts them to bed a littler earlier than normal because they have been driving us nuts all day!!!!!!!!

It's just one of those stupid chain facebook statuses that people put on there to convince others and themselves of something. They're probably a really crappy parent and are just in denial, trying to make themselves feel better.

Yeah, I was a little annoyed about it really, as it was basically suggesting I wasn't a real parent. I drafted several comments and then deleted them before posting as I guess it was a bit of a rant.

The Institute for Studies found that increasing numbers of babies born to liberal, middle-income households believed their parents to be self-absorbed dicks.

But I get the impression that sometimes our neighbours think that the kids are just a little too noisy...
Don't get me wrong, they are good kids but.... 4 of time does not just increase the noise threshold by 4 times...
So yes, I am one who admits that I occasionally palm my kids off to childminders/babysitters (or I used to before the eldest did her babysitting course - now we bribe her to babysit!), and we do breathe that sigh of relief once they all go to bed

Not ashamed to admit it, parents are only human after all and if you don't vent or get some time on your own then it's like a ticking time bomb.
Tuppence has met my kids and I hope she would agree that they are quite good kids and know their limits.
