Winterlude is fun though, more so if you can skate as hitting the rideau canal is part of the charm. Its been said that there really is no such thing as bad weather in Canada, only poor clothing choices. The jury is still out on that one though. A month in (from the official start of winter) , and I'm getting sick of the winter weather already.

Well, I had heard that it could get to as cold as -40 - which scared me slightly.
Don't get me wrong, i love the whole cold, cold, snowy winters, snuggling up in my fleecy pj's, after a days skating on the Rideau Canal etc, it was one of the things that mainly drew us to Canada, however, i'm slightly worried that my fingers, toes, nose will fall off in such a cold temp....?
Am i viewing this in a slightly romantic way and do i need a slap...?
PS: I'm really looking forward to Winterlude!

Tell who ever it was that told you this it's bullsh*t, it has never been as cold as -40C in Ottawa.
Ottawa's record minimum temp is -36.1C set way back in 1943.
On average the temp in Ottawa gets colder than -30C only half a day per year and colder than -20C only 18.4 days per year on average.

For rounding and 'apocryphal tale' purposes, -36C is -40C wind chill or no bloody wind chill.
