Default Online dating - beware.....

of idiots like this

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmont...blackmail.html

What a complete low life he is, but I have to admit that the first thing I thought when seeing this on the news was "What woman in her right mind, saw the picture like this and thought to herself - "based on appearances, there seems a really nice put together guy".

Has anyone been had with these sites?????

I remember a few years ago going on a date with "an ex SAS soldier - who obviously couldn't say what his specific role was" - needless to say that one lasted til the end of his sentence, and shortly afterwards I met the ex.

I would never use one again

A long while ago I went on a second date with a woman from the internet. I knew her to be actively bisexual and a conservative voter. I was just expanding me parameters so as to be able to cope with all of that when she admitted to being a lawyer. I ran.

Well of course I've been in a monogamous relationship since before the internet was invented by Al Gore, so no.

But I've downloaded a lot of good friends from this site. Never a (majorly) negative experience so far.

<this isn't very relevant is it?>

Online dating can have serious consequences. Two stories.......

On a date with a sweet girl from Essex. She's looking over my shoulder whilst we're in the restaurant. When I finally ask why, she says "Oh I'm keeping an eye out for my former fiancee, he turned up on my doorstep last night. He's a bit emotional and has done time for GBH". Ate quickly. Made my excuses. Left.

Met this Canadian, living in London. Now live in a place I'd never heard of. (other than vaguely as a place where they used to have fish).

I've used various online dating sites over the years, and haven't met any serious bunny boilers, all seem to be normal types. There is a stigma about online dating, that you are obviously some geeky "sad" type to be using it, and I know a few people who adamantly refuse to use it for that reason, or who if they do use it and meet someone, do not let it be known that is how they met.
Personal choice obviously, but I don't see why there is the resentment to give it a try. It can't be worse than meeting someone in a bar can it?

I met my wife via a dating site and I'd say we are both pretty normal, so there are good stories out there. I'm also not ashamed in any way to tell people how we met.

As with anything, it's always the bad stories that are more publicized.

If I was single again, I would have no reticence in using their services.

not saying there aren't succes stories, but if I (hopefully don't!) ever need to play the dating game again then I would have to find another way of meeting blokes!

Due to the fact that I have crap judgement.
