Default Old House (for Canada) Noises

We live in a house that's 65 years old. Like most old, wooden houses (this one built of old-growth fir) it creaks and groans etc.

However, quite a few times I've heard what sounds like footsteps on the floor outside my room and then someone in the bathroom opening cupboard doors. It's so uncanny that sometimes I've gone out of my room to say hello to OH, thinking it's him coming home late, only to discover that no one is there, or called out with no answer.

My 7 year old has heard the same noises.

Anyone got any ideas/have similar stories they want to share?

Last time we heard noises like that it was a racoon who had made his way in through the screen of an open window.

Firstly I would sprinkle some flour (if you have wood / laminate that is) on the floor to get any footprints.

Secondly I would set up a webcam / vid cam.

Lastly I would not suggest watching Paranormal Activity 1, 2 or 3.

This house (or unknown occupants) doesn't make any noises like that I am thankful to say. If there are ghosties here they are quiet ones

What if you get ginormous footprints? Or something suggestive of trailing an axe? I think I'd rather not know.

Mice? We had mice when we first moved in here and boy are they noisy. I keep hearing a cat meowing here - and no not my cat. Generally he is sat near me and it sounds like a cat is meowing under the floor boards. Odd.

We sometimes hear a knocking sound in the walls in the top level of the house but we've put it down to the heating system as we don't hear it all summer long; it only starts again around this time of year when the heating's back on.

My parents had mice in between the walls and ceilings of their house. OK it was Devon, not Vancouver and the house in question was 200 years old but the mice were really noisy and at night it was quite scary to listen to.

On the plus side, lucky you, living in an 'old' house, not many houses over 5 years old where we live right now

Sorry I can't be much help.

Think you meant exorcism; excommunication is where you are cast out of the church or subject to religious censure... but I knew what you meant.

Is 65 years long enough to establish ghosts and ghouls?

I'd stay up all night this coming Halloween. If you are still alive in the morning, then it's probably mice.
