Default Okotoks bound

Hi all,

we are planning to settle in Okotoks when we emigrate, hopefully Sept/Oct.

Just wanted to see if there was anybody on here that lives in Okotoks and if they wanted to get in touch. my wifes brother and family are already there, landed 23rd Feb and absolutely love it.

We have just come back from a research trip over Easter and stayed with my brother in law and family. So we tried to get a feel of what life will be like once we have settled. We loved it, can't wait.
We took our two kids around three of the local schools and I think they prefer Dr Morris Gibson, so that bides well, because we really like Crystal Shores area to live.

Our two children have asked me to ask if there are any kids there age living in the Crystal Shores area, that would like to get in touch? Emily is 10 and James is 8 and they are very keen to make new friends before they move.

Hope you can help, speak soon,
regards from the Gibbo's, Carl, Tracey, Emily and James

I think there used to be. Judy or Morwenna would probably remember better than me because they both live in Calgary. Someone will answer eventually I expect!! They usually do.

I'd hazard a guess that there are several hundred Brits in Okotoks !

Be patient - some of them are members on this site

Hi Gibbo's
We live in the Crystal Shores area and have 2 girls aged 9 & 11. They would love to make friends with your children, perhaps they can email each other and become friendly before you leave the U.K Both my girls go to Dr Morris Gibson
School and have many friends they can introduce you to.
Regards
Samantha

Ahhh great replies folks, just the sort of thing we were looking for. many thanks for your replies, I have PM'd people that have kids Emily' age.
I never ask about James, because he has made a few friend already, when we were over in April. There seems to be more boys his age that girls Emily's age? But that might of been because all the girls were inside and not playing footie or hockey outside on the drives.

But saying that, James has mentioned that he would still like to find and email some new mates, so he can chat with them, before we come over.

Many thanks again for all your replies, please keep them coming.

Regards to all,
Carl, Tracey, Emily, James

Hi Carl

You know James is more than welcome to email my two if he wants to keep in touch before he gets here!

Glad you liked the school.

Won't be that long before you are all back out here, the summer will fly by!!

I didn't see your thread yesterday because Darren is painting the study and he disconnected the computer!! Trust him to wait till all the bad weather is over and then start painting inside on the first really warm day of the year!

Hello Carl & Family

Just wanted to say congrats on settling on an area to head to, and I'm sure you'll find loads of people to become friends with. And as soon as the kids hit school, they'll make tonnes of friends in no time. Hope you guys do too!!!

I'm hopefully heading to Vancouver in a few months time! Scared and anxious and excited all at the same time!!!!!!!!!

Keep in touch, and maybe see you sometime soon - although I'm not sure I'll make the meet up, but if I do, I'll come for the day, so PM me with the final details!

Ahhh hi there B, nice to here from you.

So you decided on Vancouver then. when you say you are heading out there, does that mean for good?

Thanks for the best wishes. The response from this thread has been great, Emily has emailed someone already. They are both real excited about getting over there. We know what you are feeling, we are to, mixed emotions or what?

We are still waiting on Tracey's outcome on her LMO, hoping to hear in end of June or July, so keep your fingers crossed please. Hoping to get there for around Sept/Oct, so the kids start a new year in there new school. We have even had a visit at their school we hope they'll go to, Dr Morris Gibson in Okotoks and they both thought it was great, so that's them near sorted and one of our worries sorted.

As for the meet up. I think it's going to be in June, so if you can make it, that would be bril. I have suggested to the Gadgets, that they can stay at ours for the weekend, but they haven't replied as yet.

Anyway, please keep in touch, speak soon,
regards,
Carl

Hi Carl

Yes - heading to Vancouver for good, or as long as good is???!!! House is for sale, will have it marketed for rent as of tomorrow aswell. Target is to be in Vancouver July / August time. Havent' handed my notice in yet tho, see my other post about wobbles part 2!!! I totally loved Vancouver when I was there in January. Met some amazing people (from here some of them) and it just felt right! Calgary wasn't for me. Again met some amazing people, but just didn't get that feeling I had got in Vancouver.

June sounds good to me.

Keep in touch!

hi Angela,

surname is Gibbons.

Okotoks for us is just brilliant, has everything we need and more. Loads to do for the whole family. Tonns of jobs and plenty of new work for the foreseeable future.
Where we would love to settle in Okotoks, is a place called Crystal Shores. very friendly, nice warm people and a great school for the kids. There's quite a bit of property to choose from, all depends on your budget. If you are looking for a realtor that actually lives in Okotoks, then we recommend Julie Parry. We are using her and she's been a great help.

Hope you can make meet up and we could talk more then.

if you need anymore info and if I can help, just PM me and I'll send you my other contact details.

Cheers for now,
Carl
