Default Oh my God !!!!

There is talk of rain today, spring time must be on the way. I cannot remember the last time I saw a rain shower here. Last October perhaps

You will only appreciate this if you live in Alberta

It is lovely and sunny here today. It's even warm. Spring is here (fingers and toes crossed because I don't doubt it'll freeze again)

I have been in west central Scotland for almost a year now and this afternoon it is not raining and the sun is shining - for what seems like the first time in nearly a year . In a few months I'll be in Calgary, then I too can get excited about the prospect of rain.

I don't understand how the ground is still so dry though. Granted, we've not really had a lot of snow - but does it evaporate or something? The ground should be a bit damp, surely?! Warnings for grass fires is not one of the things I anticipated in March in Alberta

For the most part yes.

Chinook winds are very dry.

Grass fires in spring are fairly common, an unwelcome fact of life in southern Alberta.

I checked the weather site yesterday and it said it was raining in Calgary. I too couldn't believe it, got all excited and rushed to the window to look out ...... it wasn't!

We'll probably get "flurries" again.

We could definitely do with some rain to help the greenery along.

I quiet like it when the rainy season arrives, as it brings some amazing thunderstorms.Although some are a little scary when you live in a wooden house and lets hope there isn't serious flooding this year.

I took this picture when I was in california 10 days ago and couldnt believe how green it was there for March.

Calgary will go green soon enough.

We had a little shower sometime during the night as the paths were icy this morning - no sign of it when Henry and I took our morning constitutional though!

That's stretching things just a tad.

67.5% is closer to the truth.

Calgary total annual precipitation 413mm, Kamloops 279mm

But Kamloops is classified as being in a desert is it not? The Calgary area I think is defined as being semi-arid.

It does appear to be a bit drier than normal this spring fire bans issued in 11 jurisdictions in southern Alberta and fire advisories in a further 6. http://albertafirebans.ca/

Looks like we got about 8cms of wet snow overnight and it's still snowing. Might help the situation but I'm guessing not enough.

Cheers
steve
