Default O/T Driving in the US

OK so next week I will be mostly driving in Louisana and Texas. I know them damn yankees drive on the same side of the road as the Jolly old Canucks, but does the turning right at a red light thing still apply.

TIA,

AX

A quick google would indicate that it is OK on both those states. Some states allow it, some dont. They all seem to display different levels of tollerence for exceeding the speed limit too.

Have fun

In both states it's OK to turn right at a red light so long as you shoot the light out en passant.

If you drive a nice car in Louisiana try not to look black, and in Texas try not to look Hispanic. If you drive an old beater it doesn't matter.

AFAIK, the only places in North America where you can't turn right on a red light are on the island of Montreal and in Manhattan...the former to give pedestrians some sort of a fighting chance. Up until about 5 years ago, the no right turn on a red was all across Quebec but then they restricted it just to the island of Montreal.

I shall be driving whatever 2-4 dr car that nice Mr Hertz decides to give me. And looking neither black nor remotely hispanic.

Thks all for the advice/comments. Shame Mr or Bust is off his medication again.

Get the GPS option. Watch your speed. Be aware that freeway exits on the left are not uncommon in the US. More common than I remember from southern Ontario, at any rate.

Just as with Ontario, a red light doesn't always mean stop (keep your eye on your rear view mirror when stopping).
Stop signs don't really mean stop, although it seems every area in the States has their own ideas on how a four way stop works.
If you are a pedestrian, watch out.
Get on your mobile phone while driving, otherwise you'll look out of place.
Indicators don't seem to work in the USA...most of the time.
Don't speed too much.
On the highway/freeway you can overtake or undertake.

Enjoy the American south...don't paint "man love okay" or "Hillary for president" on your car

The rental is a Toyota Corolla with Florida plates. That's a bit of a worry. On the plus side the hotel has free pulled pork sandwiches and beer tonight. It'd be rude not too....

I know there are many on here who tend to snicker at the phrase pulled pork but I'm of course not one of them.

Enjoy the beer and the Corolla <snicker>.
